So, I added a yellow tang (about 2" in diameter) to my tank. I have a dwarf flameback angel who has always been very chill... However, he has decided to just chase the HELL out of the new tank, and nip at his fins... The tang is about twice his size and doesn't defend himself. I know the tang is more than capable of doing so but chooses not to for some reason. The tang eats and is overall fine, minus the almost constant irritation of the angel... Thoughts on this one? Add another fish that will help distract the angel? My girlfriend loves the tang, and I'm attached to the angel since he was the first fish in this tank... I'd hate to have to get rid of one... It's been about 5 days and the aggression hasn't subsided too much. It's actually fairly random... He'll go hours without bothering the tang, even swimming next to each other. Then he snaps and just starts nipping at him... Very odd.

Thanks guys!

Same problem with me. Added a Red Corris Wrasse and the Falco Hawkfish has started chasing it. The wrasse spends most of the day buried under the sand and only comes out at around 8pm for 15 - 30 minutes, enough time to feed him before he gets spooked and goes into the sand. I'm really hoping that the chasing will subside eventually, like you I hate to give up either fish.
The one thing you have going for you is that the angel will leave the tang alone for some time so there's the good chance that eventually he'll get used to the tang being there and stop with the chasing. There's no nipping involved with mine just the constant chasing whenever the wrasse gets too close.

@jd371 The nipping is what drives me crazy! I feel bad for the tang... But, he seems to eat and behave fine otherwise. Trying to decide if adding another fish would help break things up? However, I wouldn't have ever guessed a small angel would beat up a yellow tang. They're pretty dissimilar... Even odder, the angel leaves the other dwarf angel alone... Not sure if the yellow is similar to the flameback and he sees it as another male angel?
