Hey reefers,

I am so excited to say I just bought a dwarf golden moray!!! I am currently drip acclimating him as we speak. I'm going to drip him for about 2 hours just to be safe. Is there anything I need to do before putting him in my tank? I have a little box hooked onto my tank where I will keep him for a little so he can get used to my tank and get comfortable without any fish bothering him. When it is time to take him out of the side box is there anything I need to do specifically? He is a baby and I'm worried the fish will bother him. Also I know I need a feeding stick. Any recommendations where I can get an eel feeding stick for a decent price? what food should I feed him with the stick? Also where can I get clips to secure my tank lids ? Any specific eel clips ? Anything else that you know about this dwarf golden moray that I didn't cover will be appreciated! Quick responses will be very much appreciated! Thanks!

He really should have went into a qt tank all alone. That way not only could you monitor his health, he could get use to being in captivity. You are probably going to have to target feed him, if not even introduce live prey like ghost shrimp to get him eating. I find it a big challenge to introduce a eel that's probably just came from the ocean into an active tank.

As far as lids go, I've used weights on top for stronger larger eels; the dwarf golden will probably not push lids open, but you can place something weighty to feel safe. But any small opening they can find, and even going into the overflow. I glued a plastic cover over my overflows, and have gorilla tape were there were gaps at the back were the plastic strip meets the tank.

If he was shipped(not bought from a local LFS) I wouldn't drip acclimate for more than 30 minutes. Salinity changes aren't nearly as hard on fish as ammonia from shipping.

Keep us updated. Dwarf golden moray is something I've always wanted to have in my tank!

What plastic cover and glue did you use to put over your overflow?

I got a thin sheet of rigid plastic from hobby lobby, it was rigid but I could cut it with some heavy shears. I cut out to cover my overflow, drilled a hole over where the air hole for my drain was and superglued in it. Just regular gel superglue, a bead every inch or two.

I just used a cover of a binder and did the same thing. I also got the zilla fresh air lock for my screen on top which hopefully will work. What do you use as your feeding stick? That's the next thing I need to buy

I used a piece of ro/di tubing, cut a V into the end so you can wedge a peice of shrimp or clam or something in there and just stick it right infront of his face. I used dried krill, chunks of other large fleshy fish meats. I had a snowflake though so Im not sure how a GDM will differ.

I was thinking about lining my tank lid with Velcro and my screen top with Velcro to secure the mesh tops. Will this work?
