hello everyone. i have a fluval spec v, it is a 5 gallon with a built in "sump". the return pump isn't too strong, as i have had my seahorses for a year in there with no problems, but if they do get caught in the flow they get tossed around. i am now having an issue with the top of my water looking oily, so i was looking for any suggestions for building a spray bar or something to calm the flow down a bit. i also have a hang on refugium, so i am not quite sure why the top of the water is looking oily. from previous experience it's from stagnant water/not enough flow, but that can't be the cause because i have two return pumps that create good circulation. any suggestions?

yea but in an upwards direction. i am going to homedepot after school to get supplies to build a flow bar. hopefully it helps

I'm thinking about using a Fluval Evo 5 g (same as spec but better light for corals) as Dwarf Seahorse Tank? I would be feeding fresh hatched brine and I researched dwarf care well. I have had a reef tank for years and have a Jellyfish tank?

In your spec, did you need to modify your pump OR just turn it down? Did you modify the outlet to break up the flow coming out?

Did you put anything over the return slits to prevent the seahorses or baby brine from getting to the back compartment?

What's in your back compartment?

I was thinking of filling the back of the tank with Sea Chem Matrix for filtration.

I would put a small amount of dry rock in the display and stock with macros especially red grape for hitching posts, gorgonians and softies (leathers, etc.)

Any feedback would be very appreciated. Any suggestions for mods? Also, I would love to see some photos of your tank. Thank you!

Thank you, Doug
