i have a new cyphastrea, probably 2 weeks now. It has never extended its polyps. Lately I’ve noticed some of them that seem to be missing. Is it just unhappy or being eaten by something? New to this coral.

Alk 11
Calcium -430
Mag 1350

I’ve placed it at the bottom of the tank, in shade. Low flow, barely any flow. In the corner, in the shade. Nothing.

Right now I just put it dead center of the tank at the bottom. Give it more light and more flow. Any suggestions?

Can you post a pic with whites on please
Wesman beat me to it

Hmm maybe polyp bailout? What are your nitrates and phosphates at? Also do you know at what level the tank it came from was at regarding parameters, especially alkalinity? Could be a stress response due to the change if it was very different. Also, what fish/inverts do you keep in your tank? May also be worth dipping and inspecting it for any pests ;Muted

Nitrates - 5ppm
Phosphate - .12 ppm

Not sure on the parameters it came from.

Fish: two clowns, two chromis, 1 cardinal and one fire fish.

Inverts: 4 emeralds, 2 hermits and 10-11 snails

Keep an eye on the emeralds and hermits although judging from the photo i have a feeling it is more so polyp bailout as a stress response rather than predatory activity. Try giving it a dip incase, keep your parameters stable and give it a little time. Hopefully it improves

If you moved the coral from 8dkh to 11dkh, then you'd be seeing polyp bailout. However it looks as though there's a few polyps left...barely extended.

I'd also give it time.

Update:

It’s starting to grow into the rock I have it on. Going to go with it starting to come around!

That's great news. The pics you previously posted looked like mesenterial filaments. Cyphastrea are pretty hardy, post some updated growth pics down the road.
