Is a xport bio brick and mineral mud enough for my refug to take care of the nitrates and phosphates

It really depends on how high your nitrates/phosphates are. They will likely be sufficient, but if you find your levels increasing, you may have to go back to having macro algae set up. Essentially, you would have to try it out, track the parameters for about 4 weeks, then once every 1 or 2 weeks and just keep an eye on it. There are a few good parameter logs out there that help with that. If you're interested, there is one on the site (Reef Stable Aquarium Parameter Log). For what you need, the free signup would be more than enough.

Hope this helps :)
