Dying Codium

So about two weeks back my decorator crab snipped my codium in half. I put it in the sump. Now one side is getting better while the other is dying need some advice.

Bad side.

Good side doing better.

Bad side is dying.

Would seperating it from the chaeto help? Not sure if it does but worth a shot if nutrients isn't the issue.

The only other place I could put it is the DT and then it is at risk of getting snipped again.

Also that would not explain why one half is happy and the other half is dying.

Was the dead side not receiving any light for a long time?

Well it was at the bottom of the tank with the chato blocking it while the other half was on top. Huh maybe that's why.
