So I’ve had a rush of fish dying or sick. Started with a powder blue, then my mandarin. Now my engineer goby is looking the same. Skins looks like it’s peeling after a bad sunburn. Parameters are all in check. Corals look good. All other fish look great. Any help? That is the best pic I could get of engineer goby.

This sounds like a far shot, but, brookynella? It is usually found in Clowns but it has the same kind of symptoms such as peeling, and has white slime kinda like that. If so this is a lot harder to get rid of ich.

Thanks everyone. As soon as I can get supplies I’m setting up a quarantine and treating all fish. The only thing I’m not clear on is, fallow period. What are your recommendations?

Update: Everyone is moved to qt. Still have a missing starry blenny. Everyone seems well except one of the engineer gobys. He swims in short spurts. Outside of that he’s laying on bottom gasping and rolling. They all got treated with ruby reef. Was only product on the list sourced local. Fingers crossed. Next question: why tank is going fallow I’d like to treat for ich as well. What’s your guys opinion on best way to go about the rest of my quarantine?

I use Coppersafe for prophylactic ich / velvet treatment. Therapeutic dose is 1.5 - 2.0ppm, which can be verified (important!) with an API copper test kit. Generally best to use one medication at a time, but with plenty of aeration, you may be able to treat with Metronidazole (Brook) and copper simultaneously. (A bacterial bloom is a possibility if the two are used at the same time.)

Fallow period for Brooklynella is six weeks, but if you want to confirm ich is gone from your display, 76 days is a better timeframe.

What’s your take on brook ich or anything else surviving in 0-very low salinity. It just hit me that I’ve always used water change hose to circulate water between container in my mix station. Will the FW kill it or should I fully disinfect? I searched the forums and couldn’t find similar problem.

Not sure about brook or ich, but I seem to recall having heard of short-term survival of velvet in fresh or nearly-fresh water. Running the rinse _very_ hot would undoubtedly help, as will complete dessication - not easy with hoses.

@Humblefish would know far more than I about how long various organisms could survive in freshwater - and (I'm sure!) would tell you not to share any equipment between tanks - especially QT.

Ok guys, fish have been through metro treatment. They are getting there time off before I start copper. Today my powder blue looks like this. Is this ich?

That fish also has velvet. Start copper treatment ASAP and get it therapeutic with several small doses over a few hours.

Also, that is in fact a hippo/blue tang (paracanthurus hepatus) and not a powder blue tang (acanthurus leucosternon).

Nice catch! Powder blue was the first death! Don’t know why I had that on the brain!

14 days into coppersafe. Came home to dead yellow tang(looked good) and my hippo looks like this... any suggestions? Or anything to be worried about? @Humblefish @Maritimer any help appreciated as always!

Yes 2.0 on API. Honestly a bit darker than the 2.0... matches color to a test of 1 gallon of treated water...

What is size of QT? And what amount dosed?
Also, what amount dosed to the 1gallon test?

Do you have a pic of test reading?
