Hey all,
I’m hoping you have some good news for me. We bought this gorgeous $150 LTA that fully open is probably 8-10” in diameter. He’s been deteriorating and I’ve done 2 water changes now.

This tank is currently in the beginning stages of being fallow. 2 choc chip stars, 2 cleaner shrimps & other CUC.

1.025 salinity
78* F temp
Phos 0.5ppm
Nitrate 50ppm

is he too far gone? I’ve read info on nems that says nitrates are critical and other people have said they have 100+ nitrate and flourishing nems.

other than water changes, how can I get nitrate down?

thanks in advance yall.

I can do other tests upon request*

Tank age and lighting ? Definitely not doing too well , I think he needs the cipro treatment , also any alkalinity swings?

I’ll test alkalinity when I get home. And about 8 months or so. 4 bubble tips have been thriving for about 2mo as well. Is cipro that hard one to get? Will any other medicine help my LFS carries most of the marine medicine that isn’t an RX

lighting was the Amazon hipagera reef* light. Just swapped it today for a reef breeder sbox16 I got on marketplace.

Could be chemical warfare from the bubble tips also , I’d recommend switching out carbon , and the only medicine I know for anemones is cipro there’s a sticky in forum

I think I’m gonna try this on him with what I have available. https://reefbuilders.com/2016/05/07/a-proven-method-for-treating-bacterial-infection-in-anemones/

Here he is an hour ago. Not sure if better or not. I added an air stone to the tank until I get the hospital up tonight

His foot still looks healthy as you can see

Yes if it is still deflating then proceed with treatment. Also ready the sticky at the top of the forum.

Can you also check the foot to see if there is any damage? It should be completely smooth with no abrasions or injuries. If there is then it’s very unlikely the LTA will make it.

50ppm nitrate, mine would not like that for sure.
This. ^^^^^^

From your pics, looks like it’s oozing insides out. If this is what’s happening, with LTA, it’s a losing battle. only a stable water chemistry and experience will help. LTA is robust as long as the foot is never damaged. Foot is key, must not have damage in the foot. One of the few that can’t recover with damaged foot.

I would do a 50% water change with new salt water aged 24 hours. Hope for the best. Treating LTA with Cipro is typically a losing battle. Get those nitrates down and do the best you can

Thanks all above. I think it’s over. He’s in the cipro hospital tank but almost immediately in that he turned into below.
