So I got this frag as a freebie . Half of it looks like it is white and has a mucus on it . Do I frag the good part and see what happens or just leave it be ? Been like this since I got it

Leaving it be it will just do what it's doing now. Fade away.
I don't know anything about your tank. Can you help us help you.

Lights, settings.
Flow
Test parameters, fluctuations?
Age of tank
Inhabitants
Anything else you feel pertinent

So I “fragged” what I could. It basically crumbled apart when trying to get it off the plug and I only chose to save one piece that looked healthy . That is on the white square tile

Alk 9
calc 440
Mg 1400

I’ll have to test for nitrates and phosphates when I get home

My lights are about 50 percent of what I usually run because I just put all the frags in there and I am slowly ramping up each day. I have a reefbreeders photon 48 over a 120 gallon tank . The light is set to the spectrum BRS recommended on the investigates they did for it. This is my first SPS being a monti . There is another monti cap right next to it that was part of what I paid for and it looks like it is doing way better in the same spot.

There is good flow in the front of the tank where they are at. It is a LPS/softy tank so I’m always struggling to find the balance between too much flow and not enough . The tank was just upgraded from a 60 to a 120 but all the live rock and sand made the transfer with all the fish and coral.

Every other coral in the tank seems happy and healthy . This one came as a “freebie” so it will be cool to see if maybe I saved it by clipping off the dead parts. Maybe it was stung by another coral? Could shipping stress cause a monti to decay like that? It was like that the minute I opened the bag so I’m pretty sure my tank didn’t do it

For placing the monti frags if they do make it. Do they need to be blasted with light and flow at the top ? Or are they different from other SPS . I’ve seen some monti s near the bottom of tanks and would love to do that . Just not sure PAR will be strong enough

You might be onto something with it potentially being stung. Are those favites near it in that last photo?

Monti like light and flow.
Sounds like you are doing the best for it hopefully it pulls thru.
Yes, keep the war coral away from it as JTP424 pointed out.

Those lights will grow everything. I have mystic sunset at the top but I took my lens out of the fixture so they don't have that punch anymore.
Monti caps are fine at lower par but if say that most Montis like higher par.

Shoot I moved it last night and wasn’t thinking. I had my chalices and favia separate on the frag rack . I’ll have to separate everything a little better when I get home

I love the light. If only I could get it to connect to my home WiFi and not have to use a hotspot on my phone . Only downside when trying to acclimate new corals it’s a hassle to get the app to connect

I just pop them in the sand for a week. Then they go where they go.
