I’ve had this torch coral for almost a year, it was doing great even starting to split to a fourth head. For the last few days it’s been deflated And now looks like I can see skeleton.

Water parameters are:

alk - 7.84
calc - 390
mag - 1320
phos - 0.03
nitrate - 2
salinity - 1.025
temp - 78

nothing has changed, lighting/flow etc. And all other corals seem ok..

Pulled it out - while trying to work out what might be wrong, an entire head detached and started floating around.

Did you examine for brown jelly disease (BJD)? If any head is healthy, cut it from the others to try and save. I’ve used iodide dips before with early detection that worked. Not sure if it will help with your situation. Sorry about this happening.

+1 seems like BJD. I would cut off any healthy heads and chunk the rest. Do you have any other euphyllia in the tank?

Thanks for the tips. I have a hammer, on a different bit of rock work about 12 inches away.

I would keep a close eye on the hammer behavior over the coming weeks.

Here is what I used for dip. Instructions are on the bottle for dose or dip.

Best of luck!

Hate to hear the bad news . This is why I can’t make myself buy the expensive/named corals... I hope that your able to salvage a piece of the torch and that your hammer does alright.
Have you added any new coral to your tank lately ?

2 birds nest corals added, about the time the torch started going downhill...they’re doing fine though, as is the rest of the tank.

The hammer started looking shrivelled today :( anything I can do? I have a dip which I’ll do.
