I have been battling this for the last month or so I originally thought it was green hair algea. I’m now thinking it’s diatoms of dynos. I have zero clue which one it is and honestly think I might have both. I’m losing corals at a record rate and about to throw in the towel. I have turned the water up to 82°. I have the UV running. But in a cube it’s so much harder to do things than in my other tank. Tbh, I never had an issue the two years this tanks been up like this until I switched for tropic marine all for reef. I’m wondering if the trace elements are my issue.

It's very likely that you could have more than 1 type of algea. It would be hard to confuse gha, donos, and diatoms IMO. A picture would be a big help.

I don’t know why the pictures didn’t upload on the original.

I’m running GFO right now and it’s at 5 NO3 and .05 PO4.
What test kits are using and what is the margin of error in those test kits?

Its hard to say in the pictures. The stringiness of the algae makes me lean towards Dino's, BUT, I didn't see any bubbles in the algae.

I just dealt with a bad case of Dino's, SO, I know a little bit about Dino's. I am on the backend of fighting them currently.

They have bubbles at the tops. These pictures where taken during ramp up. I’m using Hannah.

If bubbles are present then I afraid to say its likely Dino's. Their are several ways to combat it. You can look at the last several pages of my build thread to combat it. @vetteguy53081 also has a method to combat it as well. I would start by raising your N03 and P04 to a solid .10 on both to make sure you are above the margin of error. A Hanna has a margin of error of .03. I would take that with a grain of salt and raise it still. I also use a Hanna ULR P04 checker, and now a Hanna N03 HR checker. My N03 is high, so no issue with a margin of error, but, my P04 is constantly at .05 when I check it. I dosed a ton of NeoNitro and NeoPhos and also feed extremely heavy to raise my parameters. Now I am trying to lower the N03, but, that's a good thing as I am battling actual algae now and not Dino's. The only actual way to see if you have Dino's is a microscope.

Prepare by starting with a water change and blow this stuff loose with a turkey baster and siphon up loose particles.
Turn lights off (at least white and run blue at 10-15%) for 5 days and at night dose 1ml of hydrogen peroxide per 10 gallons for all 5 nights. If you dont have light dependent coral- turn all lights off.
During the day dose 1ml of liquid bacteria (such as bacter 7) per 10 gallons.
Clean filters daily and DO NOT FEED CORAL FOODS OR ADD NOPOX as it is food for dinos.
Day 5,, you can start with blue lights - ramping up and work your white lights up slowly

I have a frag tank I can move all my corals too except the nems. Would you still do this same thing or go heavier?

I have a gallon of fritz 9. Would that be equivalent since it’s not dormant like micro 7.

Fritz good and moving the corals are optional to you. I left mine is as others have also. Would not hurt
