E5 opinions needed.

Lots of people have bought them -- Nobody has suggested them. They planned to release a new updated version and it never happened last I checked. Marine Depot no longer sells it. Reviews of them are pretty terrible.

It may be indirect, but there are lots of strong clues out there .

etc etc. you won't find much info -- If they were the best thing since sliced bread, everyone would be talking about them. Nobody is talking about them. That's a very big clue, when researching anything.

The original E5 bulbs have been discontinued. Good luck finding them at this point and if you do, good luck getting them to run. Many of the popular T5 fixtures on the market didn't run them properly. Lots of failures.

Then they brought out the E5X but it's never come to market. The deal with Marine Depot was severed and the only thing you read is "coming soon." I think they've been saying that for close to a year now. I doubt we ever see them but I did hear rumor that BRS has been testing them.

I also heard that Ushio (I think) has some LED bulbs coming out but they are T8s and geared towards fresh water. Which is smart on their part because FW dwarfs the SW hobby. They could build some capital and work out any kinks. Of course, they still have to overcome the issue of ATI, Giesemann and other fixtures not running the T5 LED bulbs properly.

If you want T5s and the LED pop, get the Aquatic Life hybrid. Win, win.
