Hello all. So I live in CA and "the big one is coming" (like they say every year...) but this year will be different because I have a fish tank... So anyone got an idea how to make a fish tank do what "earthquake proof"?

Replace the tank with a plastic pond liner and set it up on a cement slab. Build a metal frame around it like a dune buggy, then plexy around it. Mount the light on it with carriage bolts and get a generator, windmill and solar combined would be best for an earthquake, as gas will be through the roof, if even available.

that is, if you are as worried about your tank more than yourself, in that case, Kudos, because I would just move away before it hit.

Someone did a test on that once to see if a tank would survive an earthquake. Search YouTube and you'll probably find it. I don't remember what they did to make it more solid though.

Warlock - I would say the same thing... The most I have to deal with is frigid cold and snow... The other places can keep their hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, mudslides, tropical storms, etc...lol

Not much you can do although my 55g survived the big one some 25 years back with just some splashing. You can anchor your stand down if you have that ability but not sure any type of wall anchors are going to help much

Dont tap on the glass signs are so the glass doesnt just give out from people poking at fish, so a DONT EARTHQUAKE MY TANK sign might even help prevent "The Big One."

My understanding is that when people live where crazy earthly disasters occur are clinically insane. Look at New Orleans, Below sea level by the ocean??? DONT THEY HAVE SUMPS ON THEIR TANKS??? Anyone knows water below water will become a flood at one point. So you live in Cali, is this big one the one that finally splits it off the continent? If that is the case you have alot more to worry about than fish. I would evacuate the state If I were the Terminator. The beach can't be that awesome! ;p
