So my wife went into labor on Monday,
Before heading in I took a quick peak at my 30l, made sure there was top off water and skimmer was emplty.

We just now got back and I found my tank in this state (see attached)

My brother in law was simply stopping by and actually feeding less than I would...And somehow this looked "fine" to him :-/

I'm quite busy with our new born and need the easiest way to get this cleaned up... Advise is appreciated.

Thanks

Patience, snails and water changes. A good scrub brush. Not that bad really. prob take an hour.
Get the Green algae Id'd though.

CONGRATULATION on the newbie! Now for the bro in law, Tell him you have to take a road trip to the next state over, to get something for you TANK to fix it. Take him with you and when you get to the next
state, pull in to the first truck stop that has a fast food place .Tell him your hungry ,to go get some food that you have to use the restroom you will meet him in the food place. As he go one way you go the other way
back to your car. When you are at home and he call you from the state you left him in, tell him you are to busy to talk you have to clean your tank and he can think about that on his way home.

As for the tank, Do a water change, cover your baby with a blanket for 3or 4 days no lights. Do another water change, i would change media and get some snails.

I don't know if the blackout method will work...but u can try...it all depends on the species of dinos

Thanks guys, black out for now until I can spend some time on this hopefully tonight.

Nothing new but the tank is less than 6 months old.

I don't have a test kit for phosphate but nitrates have been under control and under 10 historically....Not sure what they are now

I highly recommend a phosphate test kit; easy to do, and gives an important data point. API has a cheapish one (cheap enough that Corporate lets us order a store use one).
