Easiest Way to Grow Coralline Algae?

If you don’t have a lot of sensitive corals yet you can raise you alk to around 12 and that will help give your coralline a kick start. Once it’s growing well lower it back down to the range you want. Also make sure you have detectable nutrients in the tank, I can always tell when my nitrates or phosphates are low because the coralline doesn’t look as vibrant and stops growing

Your light matters to. What are you using. My first tank with a cheaper light still hasn’t grown coraline even with seeded frag plugs, but my new 90/115 has tons of coraline and it’s only been 5 months, but I had some after the first month. On that tank I use t5 hybrid blue plus and 2 360’s

It might be to bright, my buddy uses the same thing, he doesent have to much coraline now that I think of it.

The system started out with dry rock and hasn’t seen any live rock or anything with coralline algae. I think it needs to be seeded

Don’t see any of the purple stuff on any of my frags or rocks

Just a update got some rocks and coralline chips from a fellow reefer and broke up the chips and scattered throughout the tank...will see how it goes

It worked well for me, good luck! Stable parameters, good light, and patience usually works once you've introduced coralline into a system.

how did this work in your system? im wanting to buy it also but only if it truly adds all the different colors it says it can.

My tank has some of those I believe but it started growing on my rock, mostly white, but some dark green and red.

I started my tank in January 17 and while its not covered in coraline by any means I do have a decent amount. I believe my success was driven by Purple Helix.


I added it, it took maybe 3 months to really kick off... but I'm scraping coraline off my glass weekly now.

I just got some of that myself. Cool product.

coralline won't just magically grow out of nothing, you need to seed your system with it. So go get some small LR pieces with it already or ask your LFS for some coralline scraping and rubbles and seed your tank with it. Place them near a high flow area so the spores and spread elsewhere in the tank.
