Easy Corals for Ten Gallon Reef

I'm all for using a protein skimmer no matter the size of the tank. The Rio nano on my ten gallon reef does a great job. It is a little noisy but the results for a $26 skimmer (Pet Mountain currently has them at this price) are impressive, hard to believe so much gunk comes out of what appears to be crystal clear water. Your setup looks fantastic, I'd say you're on the right track with all the test kits, a good filter, & UV but from what I can see it looks like you may have to up grade your lighting if you want to keep coral. I hope this helps & wish you success.
P. S. Who makes that stand it's very cool.

I'm all for protein skimmers on all tanks as well although I've been told they are unnecessary. My thought is why settle for mediocre water quality? I'm looking at buy the Mame Protein skimmer due to superior form, and low noise level and tank footprint. I'm thinking of upgrading the Lightning from the Current USA Orbit Marine to the new Pro version due to its par ratings that are superior. Or going with single Kessil. Also, i constructed the stand myself, fairly pleased with the outcome.

I haven't played around with the Marine model, so I can't say for sure. Perhaps others can weigh in on that one. I've used the Current USA Pro model, and found it insufficient for anything but softies, like mushrooms. I would guess that the Marine is more powerful, but not a ton more powerful- you might still be limited to softies near the bottom of your tank. Start with low-light stuff and then work your way up the ladder if it does well.

This is the model I am most likely going to upgrade too:

I'm assuming your experience with the "Pro" was with the freshwater line?

Great job on the stand. I also checked out that Current Marine Pro and can't see any reason not to go with it. Though I do think the whole weather thing is unnecessary & kind of funny. Most of our fish and corals are aqua cultured so if anything it would just terrify them.

Thanks! I'm looking into that being my next upgrade after the skimmer. My current light has the weather functions and I would never consider using them. It's more so for "wow factor"

No need to ditch the canister filter. Check out nano-reef June 2015 featured tank WawaWang, using a canister filter just fine on a gorgeous tank.

I don't know the forum rules about posting another reef forum here so I better not in case. People saying detritus factory, yet this guy doing just fine for 3 years with a basic maintenance schedule, which he lists by the way. If google brings up the page for you. Just get on featured tanks and his unique name WawaWang stands out. It made me think of you and your tank. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your photos.
