Easy Corals

Kenya tree, zoas, mushrooms, palys.

Be aware that the path of the new reefer is often add easy corals that are usually fairly invasive> really get the reef bug and start looking at more expensive and colorful corals > the easy invasive corals take over everything> you have to sell rocks and add new ones to get rid of invasive corals you added in the beginning.

Besides those listed above, if your parameters are stable some lps species are not too difficult, and dont have the pest status. I would look at euphyllia species in particular, just need to space from anything else you add of long sweeper tentacles.

I agree with the above. LPS has always done well in my tanks even during the learning phase. Plus I think they are some of my family's favorite to watch as the tentacles flow all around.

I bought a "beginner frag pack" from Worldwide Corals as my first corals. It included a frag of: Tyree Open War Coral, TG Watermelon Psamacorra (sp?), WWC Spitfire Favites, Hollywood Stunner Chalice, and Green Star Polyp (which is a softie, I believe).

My tank had fully cycled and run with just fish and cleanup crew for about a month before I introduced these corals. All parameters were fairly stable, and I'd set up a dosing pump to dose alkalinity, daily (since that seems to swing the most rapidly).

All that said, the War Coral, Favites, and Green Star Polyps have all done very well. The other two have been a bit more sensitive. Later, I added a Kryptonite Candycane which is doing exceptionally well. So...I second the recommendation to wait a bit, stabilize parameters, and start with easy LPS instead of softies. Unless of course you want a softie-only tank, in which case dive in!

Also, if you choose to have Green Star Polyps (like many other softies: mushrooms, xenia, etc.) make sure to put them on their own rock surrounded by sand bed, which should keep them from spreading beyond their original rock to take over the rest of the tank.

Good luck, you're in for a fun ride!

This person is 100% true. But if you want growth and dont mind the spreading those could work for you. Some love them and the flow that goes with them.

My first coral was a torch coral but if I had it to do over again I would start with some nice looking zoas and mushrooms and work my way up from there :)
