Hello all! Welcome to my tutorial for an easy effective seaweed feeder! One thing that always bothers me about most seaweed clips is that the seaweed rips in half and the fish end up not eating it. I’m sure there are feeders on the market that don’t rip the nori, but I went with the cheap and effective DIY route! I hope you enjoy this tutorial!

Materials:
  • 1 1/2” -2 1/2” PVC pipe. (Or whatever size you need for the amount of fish you have)
  • Cling wrap
  • Drill and drill bit
  • E-Marco 400 aquarium cement (I happened to have this. Feel free to use any aquarium cement you wish)
  • A fitting that fits on your size PVC. I used a threaded adapter because that’s what I had. Anything to give it an end will work.

  1. To begin, cut a piece of PVC about 8”-12”, drill multiple holes in the PVC (optional), and glue the end fitting on.
  2. After glue is completely dried, wrap the pipe in cling wrap. Use a rubber band and secure a piece of cling wrap around the end of the fitting (unless you used a cap) so the cement won’t leak out.

  3. Mix the cement according to the instructions, but mix it a little wet so it can be poured a little easier than normal. Fill the PVC about half way with cement.

  4. Allow the cement to set.
  5. Peel off the cling wrap and make sure the cement is dry.

  6. Wrap a sheet of nori around the PVC and secure it with rubber bands.

  7. Place in tank and push down into the sand bed. Even my big trigger fish couldn’t pull the pipe over. And best of all, the nori didn’t rip! I hope this tutorial was helpful! Enjoy your new seaweed feeder!

Note: this isn’t supposed to be pretty btw. I take it out of the tank when the fish are done eating. This is supposed to be cheap, easy, and functional!

Thanks for reading!
