I’ve had a colony of regular ol’ candy cane corals for a few years and other than the fact that they’re easy to grow, never really appreciated them. Until I moved them over to my nano under about 50 PAR.

They never showed those orange rings before. They look completely different from what they looked like in my big tank. I’m glad I didn’t get rid of them when I had the chance. It’s making me reconsider some other corals in my big tank that maybe are just not happy.

Looking good. Mine are kind of drab.
That’s what I was talking about, normally they’re these drab looking things. The main difference in the lighting is that this setup only has minimal white lights on during the day. My big tank has a pretty intense daytime period where the whites are on for a couple of hours at 80%.

I love my aqua candycanes, I mounted them under an overhang where they get between 50-100 par. They seem to thrive there. Each head splits about once every 4-6 weeks

These are older photos from September but it was the only decent ones I could find on my phone that show the drab color.

I think I an going to frag some heads and put them under lower light and see what happens.

It would be great if the lower lighting help bring some more color out.

My experience is it’s not just lighting, but I think they thrive better with less direct flow and a little “dirtier” water
