Hey, I have an established tank (4 years total, 2 years since changing to current tank).... my gsp is dying and can't figure out why. All other coral is fine. I have not added coral or fish in over a year. Any thoughts. Tahnks

I had the same thing happen to me. Everything is doing awesome - but all my GSP up and died. 6-7 colonies in total.

2 colines died.... 2 left. Very slowly dying

I only replace with waterchanges.... fish have not changed in 4 years. Couple tangs, 6 line wrasse, damsel, royal gramma, hawkfish.
Prior to gsp dying I would have to cut it back to stop it from overtaking my tank.

I had the same issue with Xenia. My wife loves it and I don't so she would always give me that side eye when I shrugged my shoulders and told her it's just dying for some reason. It turned out they needed iodine or something in Lugol's solution. Once I started dosing that it started growing like the weed it is. You may be having a similar issue with the gsp. Relying on water changes only to replenish minerals is guaranteed to lead to a slow decline of some things unless you are replacing 100% of the water every week. It could also be one of the tangs. I have a blue who will not let green zoas live. He just mows them down. But I would lean toward something missing in water chemistry that is not being replaced by water changes.

For GSP & Xenia try Seachems Reef plus and Iodine,,,
Anecdotal … for sure!!
Shot in the dark…. maybe
Cheap, can’t hurt …
and absolutely NOT backed by any science or formal study ;)

I just got home from vacation and mine has never been so green unless its been a while since ive seen them. I provide medium water flow and lower light to them as I have multiples. Also a little iron, and potassium to the water
Blow them with gentle bursts from turkey baster occasionally as they like toadstool dont like sediment on them

I'll try iodine, fish leave them alone. First colony that died were high high flor for well over a year. Fingers crossed. Never thought I'd say that to save gsp.

Better this than it crowding out other corals.

How big is the tank? Do you have a refugium?

I would take this opportunity to move a small frag onto a corner of the tank without rocks to keep a nice patch going (or attempt to) with less light.

Also would try to place some in the refugium. Doesn't hurt because they usually grow like a weed

It's a 90, not really a refugium (thrown together bs). Just didn't k ow if anyone else who has had this found any answers.
