Eats like a Yellow, costs like a Kole?

So due to my allergy (literally the only one I have) I think I'm going with this guy : https://reefchasers.com/collections/all-marine-fish/products/flame-tail-tomini-tang

Any advice on QT process? I have a 15g tank but there isn't any algae growing in there. Planning to order the small size 1-2".
Nice pick. Be sure to get an algae clip and some nori. I have a 2-spot bristletooth in QT now and the nori is all he really has to pick at.

Ok I kind of lied / got overruled by the family choice. We wound up ordering the convict tang, fingers crossed it'll be a healthy one!

Good luck, these tend to be herbivorous strict if over 3” IMO.

I ordered from liveaquaria, it should be 1 1/2 - 2" I figured with a tang having the 7 day guarantee would be better than a 2 day lol. I also ordered the feeder @BVF recommended and some seaweed sheets. Hoping all goes well, but it seems they can be difficult.

A little late to the party but orange stripe tangs are both bristletooth and cheap. Not the prettiest tang around but very utilitarian.

I've kept a few of those (one now) and they get BIG. I had to rehome two but they are awesome algae eaters.

IMO
Get a foxface .
Eats more algae than any tang and a lot more affordable .
I was very tempted, still am tbh, to go with the foxface. We figured it would be better to err on the side of caution since I'm allergic to bees. On the off chance I did get poked it would suck to have to make a Dr. visit out of the experience. But everyone here likes the look of the convict also so its still a win! potentially...

That’s probably the correct choice in your situation .
I don’t know who decided it was similar to a bee sting. .
They are largely incorrect .
Hurts like no tomorrow .
Swelling , and even sinuses on the opposite side of my body .
Stung on my right hand ,
Left side of my face was congested , plugged solid .
and throbbing pain on my hand lasted almost 1.5 weeks .

living in Canada . I was told ER doctors would be baffled and not know how to cure anything like this .
The same time I was stung by a 26” anemone which left blisters on my arms .

Wish you luck... the convicts have been terrible lately.

Be sure to give it multiple feedings a day.

Well I guess I was wrong about my QT tank. I had some stuff in there I was going to remove to have it bare bottom for the new fish. When I looked it turns out the copepods I was trying to save before are still kicking in there with the bit of sand and rock I had. I guess it will just be his house unless he is actually sick now, I don't know if I want to medicate that tank anymore.

But it looks like he will have some algae to eat, and some pods if they go for that sort of thing :) I have another tank with no water Ill have to setup if he needs a hospital.

Good luck! I never got hit by my foxface, such a passive fish and I handled it bare handed a a few times as necessary. Now, my rabbit fish is another story. That crazy thing jumped up about 4' and hit me right in the thumb knuckle. Hurt like crazy. Soaked in vinegar and hot water right away. Pain a while, but not a huge deal.

Well I appreciate the wish of luck, but as it turns out a convict tang wasn't meant to be.

They apparently didn't have any of the small ones in stock, after talking to them, and since they have a sale, and I had some rewards built up, I bit the bullet and ordered the yellow tang in its place. They say it should be here this week. Hardy is probably best for me anyway!

$200 for a flame angel is in the right range correctly, and locally. I just took one into my LFS and got $200 credit for it because there's a huge market for them right now and they can't find them.
I have never seen a flame angel over 100

Between three retailers there is one in stock there which comes out to over $150 after shipping and tax.

I also specified Locally which is socal.

I was just saying dang. No need to take it so personally. All the LFS near me sell them for 99. Live aquaria does as well.

Nothing personal on my side and nothing to read into on yours.

Simply supporting a statement I made.

LA can't even get them in stock to sell. That's part of the issue here. Very very few are coming in. Used to be a staple at the distributors. Now most of them are back ordered.

Yeah I was more so commenting because I was surprised that you were seeing them so expensive. I was mad when I saw them for 100 lol. Sorry for any confusion.
