I'm setting up my apex and I'm very new to this, I have power to everything and a green light on my eb8, but when I plug anything into it, it will not work. I tried updating my firmware-didn't help. My apex is controlling my lights right now but if I unplug them from the wall outlet and into the eb8, nothing happens. I've tried my skimmer pump, return pump, heater, vortech-still nothing works. I actually have 2 eb8's and I have tried swapping them out-still nothing. Any ideas from you gurus?

Lets start with the basics... whats connected outside of power to the EB8?
Did you use the USB that came with the new EB8?
How are you connecting to the unit, Apex display, Internal URL, Apex Fusion, Apex iPhone App?
Each of the outlets requires programming, or you can manually turn them on via the display, local intranet URL or fusion... is your internal IP address space a 24-bit block or 20?

Your way over my head.... I bought the apex used so I'm not sure if it's the original usb or not-according to the manual it doesn't matter. My apex has an Ethernet cable to my router, I have tried through fusion and through iPhone-no luck. Each outlet requires programming? So if I have my lights programmed and just plug into eb8, it's not supposed to work? How do I go about programming the eb8 outlets bc I have not found this information anywhere? I don't have a clue about "internal IP address space a 24-bit block or 20?" I don't even remotely know what that means

When you said you flashed the firmware, in the app used to find the apex and flash it you will find the local IP on the apex, lets find that first.

...once you know what that is you can open the webpage on the apex by typing http://196.168.1.XX/nstatus.sht those numbers are the IPV4 address of the apex, IP for short.

I'm at work now for the next 12 hours, I can get you that information as soon as I get home unless there is a way I can find it from fusion

I think you need to start here: http://www.neptunesystems.com/support/docs/
See the "Apex Comprehensive Reference Manual"

I hope I'm not sounding harsh here; just trying to point you to a good starting point.
I don't care how harsh you sound, I'm wearing my big girl panties today-I can take abuse lol. But seriously, I don't care what you say or how rude you have to be -all I care about is the end result and that's getting my apex going. I appreciate your help

If the outlets on the EB8 are showing up on the web page then you have three options for each outlet - ON, AUTO, OFF. If you plug a table lamp into an outlet you should be able to turn it ON and OFF with the slider on the outlet. They also come with default programming which is activated by AUTO. If you can turn the light ON and OFF then the APEX is working. If your want to use the programming you'll need to read the manual referenced above.

If the Outlets are not showing up on the web page then they're probably in the unused tile bin. You'll have to drag them out to the web page to use them. Again, the manual referenced above.

Sorry, it's not very intuitive. But it is simple once you see how it works.

Ok I didn't know the first part, and I know how to move outlets, but how do you know which outlet to use for each thing? Can they not all be used for anything you wish? I'm in the process of reading through the manual, it's just a bit lengthy

I recommend the Neptune Systems forum for some real help. Go to Neptune Systems website and research the community forum. There is a wealth of information there for new users as well as advanced users. I learn new things there all the time and I've had Apex controllers on my tanks for years.

I think my problem is that I didn't setup each outlet individually, I was under the impression that you could plug anything into any outlet and it would just work. Doh! I will try this when I get home and see how it turns out

Yea it will change as you set it up for your sys. Another thing is make sure the time and time zone are correct. I have also seen where i added another eb8 to mine and it didnt show on the dashboard that i had to click the lock sym and drag the outlets down to the dashboard then i could prog as i wanted

I'm sure you guys already figured it out, but I obviously don't know what I'm doing lol. So after everyone's help and reading the 165 page manual, I setup/configured my eb8 outlets and it is now working properly. Now, I have much more work to do to establish all the failsafe's and alerts that it is capable of. Thank you everyone for the help, I couldn't have done it without my reefer comrades.

Glad you figured it out. As soon as I read it and read everyone's response, I was like "they're getting too technical" lol. Your problem was a very basic and easy one. The eb8 outlets don't work right out the box. If U plug things into them, it won't power anything. Each outlet has to be programmed thru the computer/Internet, or on the display module itself. Each outlet has to be told "what to do", without U "telling each outlet what to do", it'll just stay on the off position. But I'm glad U figured it out. Sorry to be the downer, but let me just warn U ahead of time, it'll get even harder than that from this point on, lol.

Yeah I definitely didn't know they needed told, I thought it was broken. And yeah, from what I can see, it going to get much harder. But I'm sure it will be easier with experience-just like most things, there is a sharp learning curve
