EB832 Upgrade to Meanwell 12v PSU

Would replacing the PSU on my old 832s fix the rapid clicking issue they occasionally do?

Each of my 832s have at least one outlet that I can't use because it immediately thinks the draw is too much so they just click on and off rapidly.

Just repaired this EB832 that had severe 24v PSU failure. Wiped down the (partially melted) housing and swapped in a replacement 24v PSU. This EB832 was the newer Intertek version so already had the Meanwell 12v.

Now working like new!

I just bought an old eb833 and was wanting to upgrade the power supply before using it. I opened the case and the psu is not soldered to the board as I expected. It is plugged into a socket that is attached to the board. Has anyone one seen one setup like this?
Also, it seems odd to me that there are three pins on the outside edge of the psu, but it only has two of them plugged into the socket on the board.

The rightmost pin (AC) of the power supply does not appear connected to the main PCB. Does this bar function? If you lift up the power supply slightly from the socket, is the center pin cut away? I am wondering if it was installed offset by one pin.

The center pin is still there and it is offset to where the left and center pins on the power supply line up with the center and right pins on the socket.
The pins are actually fairly loose in the socket, so I likely wouldn’t use it as is, so I didn’t even try to plug it in to see if it works.
Do you by chance still have the kits to upgrade it to the meanwell power supply for sale?

Is it always the same outlet that does not power on, or does it change from outlet to outlet?

If it is always the same outlet, I usually see burnt up sense resistors. From overloading the outlet or an electrical short.

First you would inspect both sides of the board, looking for signs of burnt components or other damage.
After a damaged component is identified, it can be removed and replaced.

If you cannot visually identify a damaged component, more advanced troubleshooting will be required using a multimeter and/or oscilloscope.

Example below of a “no-power-at-outlet” repair that involved replacing a resistor, and extending the solder joint to get to an undamaged trace.

They made a change a while back from what I recall but don't remember the date.

The pins are in different locations between the exposed and meanwell power supplies. So you can’t take the eb832 that had the original exposed power supply and just solder in the meanwell one. That is why Harry sales an adapter board to make the pins line up.

No this one came with Meanwell PW. Seems to be a upgraded board from neptune. So now should I just get the Meanwell PW either a 05-12 0.042A or 10-12 0.085A?

Having repaired quite a few EB832s, I’ve yet to see a failed Meanwell PSU. Did you test it to confirm it has 120v AC and did not output 12v DC?

Regardless, if you believe it failed, you can replace it with an identical Meanwell IRM-05-12 or (my preference) the IRM-10-12.

mine just died after yeard of flawless working. Used to replace those for others owners around me with the aliexpress replacement board but this is a fantastic upgrade that i should have seen before. Can you DM me, after years of crawling in here from time to time, i think this is my first post so old newbie it seems

Will do! I developed this upgrade because I was having the ‘Aliexpress ones fail yearly on my personal tanks. Now I’ve shipped over 400 of the Meanwell PSU kits and have yet to hear of a single one failing.
