Just curious if anyone ever used eBay for reliable aquarium supplies.

I was checking out this rodi system, which seems pretty cheap so I'm sure it's too good to be true lol, maybe someone with more knowledge and experience will be able to tell by the description?

Look at this on eBay:

In my opinion I think there are better options out there. Seems like you have to change the cartridges out all the time. I would go with the standard system. I use the WaterGeneral RD102 with clear cans. Works Great & easy to maintenance.

I wouldnt want that one just because it doesnt use standard cartridges. So they might cost more and harder to get. I mean a standard 10" setup the sediment is like $3-$5 carbon block is like $7-$10
so you gotta look at what kinda cost for those smaller ones would be and how easy to get.

Having started out with a system just like this, I say your best bet is to go with something that is going to cost a little more, like the one listed above, or from another vendor that has reputable reviews on their filter systems. One thing of note with these eBay systems, is that the DI section is not in a vertical orientation. I found that the majority of the water passing through, just passed along the top of the DI section where the DI resin didn't exist due to settling. Systems oriented vertical, force water up through the DI resin which guarantees surface contact.

I ended up going with a BRS 4-stage that is mounted and I've never looked back. Filter replacement is a breeze.

Hope this helps...

You get what you pay for on ebay in most cases and it is cheap for a reason. The problem is it will end up costing much more to own over time sinse the filters are non standard, smaller so have lower capacity anddo not last as long, cost more to replace, are harder to find and do not come in the preferred micron ranges. You will also cuss it constantly since the little plastic clips holding it all together will fall off and it will leak everywhere.

Check out Spectrapure, Buckeye Hydro and PurelyH2o, all of which have real reef quality RO/DI systems for not much more up front and will perform much better at a lower operating cost to you.

We will be posing up RO/DI systems soon so keep a eye out , the ones we use are all for standard of carbon
