Hello everyone, I was searching information about tankmates for an Echidna Polyzona in a 57 gallon tank and this is my list rigth now, any suggestions or help will help me a lot, including wich animals can't live with E. Polyzona

Caribbean Chestnut Eel (Enchelycore Carychroa)
This is one of the most hard to find eels in the hobby, even harder than a Green Eel. Anyways, they are pretty small, roughly 13 inches,it's basically a Dwarf Eel but a bit shier and a bit more "twisted" looking, similar to a dragon eel brown with white dots near the jaw and lacking of the "horns" (indeed, the CCE and the DE are from the same genus)

Barred Eel (Echidna Polyzona)
These guys are very cool looking and is really a shame that is a bit harder to find one than a Dragon Eel mainly because they are a bit tricky to feed, but some Mollies or Ghost Shrimp and problem solved, it's basically a Snowflake Eel but is a fangtooth and is a bit picky when eating.

Now, we are going to the most tricky bois that I decided to add on the tank list only if they can survive in the tank without harming one of the 2 eels if E. Polyzona doesn't attack En. Carychroa, anyways, let's start:

Maroon Clownfish (Premnas biaculeatus) [Pair]
Ok, Im not sure with this boi as I know that both of my eels are fang tooths and this guy is known for being very, very mean, so I will like to hear an alternative for this guy if it is gonna attack the eels or get attacked by the eels.

Fuzzy Dwarf Lionfish (Dendrochirus brachypterus)
Another guy that I have concerns of being eaten by the eels or eating the CCE, like the MCF, ANY alternative that can get along with my tank will be great.

Any more recommended fish to my tank will also be great.

That’s a really cool eel, I hope you find one. Not sure about tankmates but seeing that it’s a fang tooth I think any other fish could potentially be at risk. But I guess that depends how aggressive the eel is, I don’t know much about that species.

The 57 may be too small for a banded eel, I can;t think of any fish that would be ok in a 57 that would be safe from a banded eel. That is another eel that doesn't come around that often, but I have seen them, and they are not shy about eating any fish they can wrestle down.

While lions are not recommended with fang tooths, I'm not sure if the chestnut would really threaten a fuzzy. I am such a lion guy and I don't know enough about the chestnut to risk it.

The maroon clown should be an ok fit, these are the type of fish you should consider, robust and at least 3". No slender fish like dottybacks, basslets, or small wrasses; or anything super small. I would put a few colorful damsels in, it would give activity and color. They are very elusive and may be able to survive, if not, it's good food and enrichment for the eel to chase down.

Luckily, I founded both eels.

~57 gallons can maintain a Echidna Polyzona, as you said on another post about the care of E. Polyzona, but maybe can be a bit small for it. They are far more aggresive than the CCE, because the CCE is a very shy one, in the early evening they just barely stick the head out while the Green Eel streches almost 1/3 of it's body.

Maybe more testing will me needed to know more about the Chestnut Eel, as Im starting with eels and lions aren't my strong point, maybe I should not place lions with eels if the tank is too small (smaller than 120G).

The Maroon clown could be excellent for my tank, as it will not be attacked by both of my eels, and maybe some damsels like 4 stripe ones could be in the tank with the eels, just a small concern about if the CCE would be attacked, but just that

I think we are getting a little confused about the 2 eels, the eel you referred as the barred eel, I call the banded eel(Echidna Polyzona) which is pretty similar to other 2' fang tooth eels. This eel will get pretty aggressive toward fish and is best in at least a 75g 4' tank. Even in a 75g when mature it will be lucky to keep fish with the banded eel, the fish need to be large and at least semi to aggressive in nature. The eel I said would be good in a 57 is the chesnut eel, and I'm not really sure of his temperament.

So my list is this now:

Fishes:
1 Medium or small size Snowflake Eel
1 Chestnut Eel
2 Maroon Clowns
Some Damsels

Corals (only if they are viable and can live with fishes):
1 Hardy Gorgonian (1 Month after cycling has ended)
1 Pulsing Xenia sample (1 Week after cycling has ended)(I readed that can absorb waste, but can be a myth, if anyone can say if that is true or not, please verify if is true or false)
1 Blastomussa (3 Months after cycling has ended)
1 Seriatopora Cailderum Blue (6-9 Months after cycling has ended)(Trimmed regurally)
1 Acropora Bali Green Slimer (7-9 Months after cycling has ended)(Trimmed regurally to not have overgrown)

All suggestions of fish or corals (if viable and fish are coral friendly) to add, remove or replace will be great (except for the Chestnut Eel, as is the main star of the tank with the another eel)(fish are priority rigth now, so coral idea will be discarded if not-coral-friendly fishes are suggested)

The snowflake is a better bet.

When you where asking questions about tank size recommendations, I think you were comparing the golden dwarf eel with the chestnut eel because of size. Perhaps the 65g tank recommendation for the chestnut was because of aggression. Aggressive fish must be given room and not crowded.

If you get the chesnut after a year it would be great to share some info on this cool little eel.

I was asking why the snowflake is bigger than the dwarf eel but the golden dwarf needed 65 g while the snowflake only 50, in that post never mencioned the chestnut, but maybe you are rigth and the chestnut is a bit more aggresive (but I doubt, as is they say is very shy in the scuba diving world, maybe fishkeeping and scuva diving may not be related at all, but other morays show 1/3 of their bodies at the late evening compared to the chestnut that only sticks the head at the late evening) but let's wait until the quarantine let me buy my fish with no issues and wait 1 year and tell the story of this little guy, as is very hard to actually see one on a tank, even rarer on a shop, so is no one's fault of this eel being barely known on the hobby, I only have heard of 1 guy that actually got one, it was with a dwarf eel and the guy said that their are very similar

Yes you must be careful, an eel especially can be very stealth in their murder. They may stay tucked away and seemingly shy when you are around, but on the prowl in the middle of the night. I would catch my jeweled eel on his midnight prowls, and it was downright scary.

Until the eel matures you will never know, thats why you have to be careful of model citizen reports of juvis just weeks or months after introduction. I've had model citizens for over 2 years pull jack the ripper terror.

Being trapped in a glass cage is much different than the ocean. You figure these eels are likely looking at the human as a predator.

So this eel haves their behaviour as unknown, I could give more info when I got one of these little guys and have it for 1 year, but i can't rigth now because the quarantine doesn't let me get a fish tank in the first place, but in the future, when all of this is history or they make a cure or vaccine, I will buy the tank and the fish

Not now, but when quarantine ends, I will get the requirements of a eel tank: 57G tank, very strong filtration, sand and rocks... Wait 1 month to the tank gets cycled and then add the fish
