Hey guys,

I got some used MP40s quite drive/latest model used today. Can you guys look at this picture. It looks like the protective/magnet film is off? Is this normal? The guy sold them to me like new...but do these need to be replaced?

Is this normal? Do I need to be concerned or replace something?

Thanks,

Nick

Looks a little beat. Might be worth the $$ to replace the wetside. At that point, you have a basically brand new pump

Like new ..... that’s rich! Looks like those wetsides have seen a lot of use. Hope you didn’t pay top dollar for them.

Not top dollar but still not cheap.

Are they still usable?

Sure, it’s just a thin foam ‘pad’ to prevent the wetside from chattering against the tank wall. Also helps to prevent the entire wetside from spinning. That the pad is so worn would concern me that other parts of it are also worn. That generally manifests in noise. Run them and see.

Great. Thanks for the info. Kind of bummed. Learned my lesson. Just buy new.

Seller said it was about a year old...

It’s one reason why I generally avoid buying used gear (particularly stuff that moves for a living). There certainly are good deals to be had, but mostly what seems like a good deal ..... only just seems that way, particularly if you plan to be in the hobby for the long haul.

Like others said you can run them without damaging the dry side. So worst case scenario is they are noisy or sieze up.

You might be able to peel that pad off and reglue it. I've never tried myself though.

anyone know what the pad is? ive asked the UK supplier to find me a replacement for my mp60 which was quite grotty and horrible after a couple of years..

They are trying to source it but im just wondering if its just some normal foam?
