So I've been seeing these eclectus mushrooms for sale on the forums for well over 1k...but to me they look exactly like a jaw breaker....does anyone know the difference?....I've seen jawbreakers with the big patches of colors so I don't think that's a fair argument, but anyway does anyone care to explain?

Usually, the jawbreakers have to reach a certain size or time in an environment to display its full potential. Most eclectus mushrooms have been appearing with a bolder/complete patterns than normal jawbreakers even the very small ones. Also, hype adds to the price.

It's part of the coral game. To some stores/overnight shops, one quick $1000 sale, which can go wrong and he/she loses the customer for life, is better than a customer whom buys $20-$80 corals over a time frame which could potentially add up to more than that single transaction and is easily repairable if an issue occurs.

Makes sense...I buy high end corals so I really don't want to make it about the money...but I also won't spend 500$ on something that looks like something that cost 20$ but that's just me...I see your point on the eclectus mushroom difference

Interesting thread, you beat me to the punch. I just purchase 2 Eclectus mushroom very colorful from TRA. Yes very pricey, but comparing to the jawbreaker the Eclectus seem to have larger patches of color. Anyhow I please with my purchase.

Yeah man I'm not judging they do look awesome before I make a purchase like that I just want to make sure I'm not buying another jawbreaker lol which cost me 250$ I try to get those deals

Agree and don't agree, however to each it's own. Everybody is in title to his or own opinion. But I can agree it's a coral game depending how is the market. But in reality it boils down to color and bottom line what is that individual willing to pay. Here on R2R is 99.9% highend, keeping up with the jones! In my opinion this is the only forums with the hottest corals.

So what did you buy?

@LatinKing I didn't buy anything yet kind of out of my price range right now...I'll just admire pics for now or maybe I see another reefer selling it at a price I can swing

Well, it was really nice setting the difference between a Jawbreaker and an Eclectus. For me, since I've had 100's of it sold, I've always appreciated the beauty of a Jawbreaker however the big difference. You could easily distinguish an Eclectus Mushroom to any other that's quite like it. The metallic appearance of colors are more of an Eclectus' major characteristics while a jawbreaker may, least of the time display the same characteristics when a miracle happens, lol
Eclectus Mushrooms has a hue of green mixed with its yellow skin, Jawbreakers have a more Orange to yellow mixture or appears as a separate major color by itself though may display greens only as specks or patches but purely separate from other colors it may display, usually develops over a time period.
What sets the price? Simple, a well balanced mixture of wavelengths of light it's exposed to!

I will explain it this way,,,

I live in an area where we go Flounder gigging all the time,, When I first started ,, I was sticking every dark spot in the water,,, thinking that ,,,maybe that was a flounder,,, never was,,, just a dark patch of sand :( one night after my latest evening of sticking several hundred patches of dark sand,,, I walked up to the beach where there was this ole timer with a nice stringer of flounder he had gotten that evening,,, I was telling him my woes of not being able to tell the difference between a dark patch of sand from a flounder,,, he just laughed at me :) and said,,, don't worry about it son,,, the first time you see a flounder,,, you will never stick a dark patch of sand again :)

Once you see a Eclectus mushroom,,, you will never again confuse it with a Jawbreaker :)

That was an interesting story of comparison

Eclectus , liked Facebook, signed up for your newsletter, and I love the collective idea on your site! I think it’s an incredible idea that will allow individuals who are good at say growing zoas but not sps still contribute to the organization! Even a hobbiest that has a small set up can still benefit the whole hobby !
