Hi reef2reef! I have a question for you guys.
im an sps guy and had a really successful sps tank a few years ago. I upgraded tanks and tried to do sps again and for some reason can’t get any good results. Nothing is growing and new frags never make it. I’m starting to hate sps. I would like to start changing my tank over to an ecletus dominant tank.
what’s the best way to set up a tank that will grow ecletus and jawbreakers? My tank is 75 gallons with an 8 bulb powermodule over it at the moment.
thanks.

@LRT might have some insight for you.

Hey Cell thanks for the tag.
@Guttersnipe are you looking at Electus or Jawbreakers? There are many distinctive characteristics ive noticed that separate the 2 that not even some of the vendors on this site can clearly differentiate. 1) being color on top of cap. With Electus you will see a range of colors on top of cap ranging from bright greens and yellows to oranges and all kinds of colors mixed in. 2) Your traditional Jawbreakers will be predominantly the old school Orange cap color with an exception of a few super nice ones with the greens and purples and other color mixed in.
Either way I'd shoot for old school genetics for both can find them. Stuff that's been around for awhile that you can confirm.
For Jawbreakers id be looking at confirmed Poletti lineage JB's
@Saltyreef has some really nice old school Kmaintl lineage JB's that are doing exceptionally well for me.
The new school JB's are alot more picky and haven't been through the kind of trials and tribulation the old school ones have so they are not as hardy as the old school JB and alot of folks have issues with the newer ones coming in.

Thank you for chiming in. I’m leaning more towards ecletus mushrooms cause I like the metallic look of them. I have a few now and they’re super bright. I tried reading up on ecletus mushroom care but couldn’t find much information on them. So far what I have gathered is low par and low flow. Is that right? Currently my tank is very high par and very high flow.

Par is dependant on who you ask lol. Ive seen reefers post pictures of JB in 300 par. Think its more about finding sweet spot and how they do in your tank with your lighting.
Those Kmaintl JB may actually be a nice surprise and addition to your Electus collection. They have a different color cap than the standard Orange with a nice metallic sheen on them. Very hard to explain.

On Edit my shroom lagoon has tons of flow through and around it but very little to no flow directly on shrooms themselves:) Very tight line one must walk with shrooms and keeping things dialed with flow inside tank:)

Great collection of mushrooms!

what’s the ideal parameters for ecletus mushrooms? Currently my nutrients are pretty low and I’m working on bringing them up. My last icp showed .05 phosphates and 0 nitrates.

Your going to find all kinds of good results in high and low nutrients. I say stability is key. All major params set and locked in to the best of your ability. All my shrooms seem to be doing great with 5ppm Nitrates and .03-.1 Phosphates. Turnover and flow through my tank is key for me. Gets tricky with fussy shrooms though.
