Debating on what pump would work better in my reef. I currently have a redsea170 with a vectra M1 pump I run it about 65% with it increasing twice a day at 100 % to clean out the debris in the tank. I will put two pumps on the back wall, for more circulationI I want a lot of sps. I have apex and reeflink so I can control them either way. Cost are pretty close. I have used mp10wes before, just seen all the pretty cool features the WAV does that no other pumps do. So anyone using these pumps? How do u like them? How do u compare them to other pumps? Need information on these guys in action.

I have two of them and love them. Lots of ways to set them without any kooky programming and they have been working excellent.

Thanks for the reply. Anyone else have these pumps? Do the cords look bad in the tank?

The Neptune WAV is way too big for a Reefer 170. In fact, it's way too big for a Reefer 250. Even at it's minimum setting, it's too powerful for that small of a tank unfortunately.

agree...WAVs are made for much larger tanks.

Just took 2 wav's off my 210 was definitely more than I needed!!! Really really strong pumps

Yeah, I really hope Neptune comes out with smaller units for the users with smaller tanks. The WAVs are amazing and it's a shame you won't get to use them.

Thanks for the information guys. That means I see an upgrade in the future! Definitely happy I didn't spend the $ means more towards a bigger tank. Thanks again!

One of our employees just set this up in their office. That is a Red Sea Reefer 170. Works really well.

On a 210, two of them would be awesome. When I had my 210, I had two 4000gph Sicce Voyager as well as two MP40. Two WAV in a 210, pointed correctly, I have seen with my own eyes work awesome.

You wouldn't want (or need) more than one WAV in that RS170 of course.

Haha I guess I must be insane because I have 3 on my 120.

Really though, it's because of how my rockwork is set up.

I've got (4) Wav and (1) MP 40 on my 350 . I like the wav for the controllability but I have the MP40 for the battery back up

I just put my 5th one on my 425 - just to see what I could do with random flow. My left bommie is pretty much SPS. So, I have three in the corner (2 back wall and one side up high) with them pointed 1. down the back behind rocks, 2. up to the surface and off the front glass. 3. at the front glass slightly down. Then I have the fourth one on the back glass way up high, pointed toward the front glass at angle. And the last one is on the right side up high on the back corner side glass pointed down the length of the tank behind the rocks.

At first you get some sand here and there as it figures out where to land and stay put - then it all seems to work itself out.

On the RS170 above note that there is no sugar fine sand in that tank. Sugar fine sand and good flow do not go well together.

this is the tank i want to add them to. Like the previous reefer said it would probably blow sand everywhere if I run two. Maybe just one would work? Thoughts

For proper random flow throughout the entire tank, I think you'd be much better off using 2 smaller pumps vs one large pump that is clearly oversized for your tank volume. 2 MP10s would serve you well in your Reefer 170. If you want to save a few bucks, then 2 controllable Tunze 6040s would work very well also. Buying a WAV pump and not being able to run it over 5% (if that high is even possible) is a complete waste for your specific volume constraints IMO.

I have both on a 185gal. The Wav's are easier to set up and program, but parts of the system have been back to Neptune twice for repair in the first 6 months of use. They are also cheaper that 2 MP 40's which have worked flawless since instillation 41/2 years ago. The MP 40's are also easier to clean,ie, no wires in the tank. That being said they are not as easy to control the patterns of flow.

They would be allot of pump for a 170. I have a 65 and I have them @20% during max periods. I have SPS primarily, so I like allot of flow. I do love the control I get with the APEX.

I clean my WAV by taking them out of the tank (without powering them down - they turn off automatically), then I put them in a 1g jug from BRS Calcium that has half vinegar and half water. I then drop it in there and it turns back on automatically. I let it run in there for about a minute or two then I shut it off with my phone. I let it sit for two hours and then I put it in another jug with fresh water and run it for another minute or two. Then I pull it out and put it back in the tank.

Sounds pretty easy to clean I like that. I actually called apex today and spoke with a representative about the WAV in a redsea 170. He said he actually has this same tank and uses one WAV pump. He can not us two it is way to much. He said he does not have sand he has a bigger substrate. He runs the WAV on the back wall next to the return about 8 inches deep and turns it towards the right side of the glass. He can run it on some programs at 50% says creates a great wave in the tank. He runs it at 7% at night. Decisions decisions

I’ve got 12 WAV in my tank and really like them. I wish there was more info on the pulse and maverick settings for duration as I can’t figure that out... otherwise good and strong power heads.
