Ecosmart Live is utter garbage

The best part of ecosmart live is when you happen to get it set up and you are happy. Then 4 months later you want to tweak it. Then it stops working and you start from day 1. And just so you know, the wxm modules aren't much better

My Ecosmart Live stopped working altogether when I upgraded my Mac OSX laptop to the latest OS (Catalina). Seems that Ecosmart Live requires a version of Java that’s so old I can no longer install it. If you plan to use Ecosmart Live with an up-to-date Mac, maybe hold off until Ecosmart is updated to a modern programming stack or they fix this bug.

Fortunately I got my lights setup before upgrading my OS... just hope I never have to reset them.
Strange, I'm on OS X Catalina and Java V8 Update 231 and can connect to EL 99% of the time.

That is strange. As soon as I upgraded to Catalina, ESL complained about my java version. I was required to re-download a legacy Java to install—however even after installing the legacy Java (again) on Catalina, ESL complained about the version.

I had the same problem as this guy (link below). Tried his solution and got the Ecosmart to stop complaining about Java but ended up with another installation problem so I gave up.

I don't know why or how it either working for some and not for others.
I have only had a issue maybe 1% of the time. But then I don't mess with it much.

I have mine on WiFi. And zero problems. I have Radion, vectra and two vortechs

I have not had problems connecting or controlling with my Reef Link since upgrading my modem about a year ago. I agree the setting/changing programs on Vortechs is cumbersome but once set up it works well for me. The only problem I have is one of my four Vortechs loses connection about half the time if it's powered down for any reason.

I also have a Vectra and it has not been a problem with Reef Link.

Try and calibrate your vectra, or Radions. A 510 minute process took me almost 1 hr per light, and the vectra never passed the last step.

For those saying they are having constant issues, is your reef link connected to WiFi or an Ethernet cable?

For me:
No issues, Ethernet cable.

majority of owners including myself are using WiFi. It’s just a fail for them and hopefully there are better companies out there step up their games for substitutes.

I also have mine connected with Ethernet and it works most of the time, any time it doesn't I just unplug it for a few seconds and then by the time I go back to my PC it's fine.

I’m one who hasn’t had any issues after initial startup with reeflink/ESL live, though I use it exclusively on my laptop with an Ethernet connection and chrome as the browser. Epic initial fail with explorer, but all good since. Imagine ESL is about to be irrelevant with möbius.

I’ve not had any issue with ETM customer service ... well, other than one occasion when I had somewhat unrealistic expectations LOL. Other than the unique vortech, everything else ETM can be found elsewhere if you so wish.

None of this is acceptable. I don't care if it works with ethernet, if you want people to use that, don't offer WiFi. WiFi interference is another excuse I am reading, but that GHL doser I mentioned sits quite literally three inches from the RL and just straight up works. Every time. I mean you can buy a 25 dollar webcam on Amazon with rock solid WiFi connection but my 2k worth of ''premium equipment" can't get it right.

I was up until 2am messing with all this and still not sure it's even programmed. I factory reset the RL without any change. I even opened the frigging thing up to make sure the RF chip was in place correctly. I tried connecting to my second WiFi instead of my main one. I unplugged my doser to see if it was that messing with it. Tried manually unplugging all my pumps, one at a time. I could go on.

I haven't done much research on this Mobius, it sounds like some kind of new connection bridge? Let me guess... It doesn't work without having to buy something?

I had a million issues with mine also. Once I plugged the reeflink Into the ethernet port it's worked flawlessly. You may also want to open the reeflink and remove and reset the rf chip that sometimes comes loose

Always seems there’s something quirky with this stuff. I have the GHL doser 2 and could never get it to work with WiFi. Finally gave up as it works fine with an Ethernet cable LOL.

That’s pretty frustrating. It’s very odd that it works quite well for some and for others it doesn’t. I’ve had mine for 2+ years and it is still working as advertised. Main reason I switched to using Ethernet was my network reliability. I’ve an old WiFi router and the signal strength didn’t reach across the house. The 10 year old router also tends to cut out randomly requiring hard resets. Only reason I haven’t replaced it is because it still works, I use it as a stand alone for home devices and now use a newer one provided from the ISP, and now that things are setup I rarely need to go in and mess with things.

i too have been massively frustrated with the reeflink hardware. I almost always had to unplug the thing's power cord, wait 10 seconds, plug in again to reset. I finally bought a Vemo (?) wifi controlled outlet and if I need to turn it off and then on again from remote location, its simple to do. But for sure, it shouldn't require having to this. I like the Radions (I have 3) and the MP-40's are pretty nice too.

anyone solve the catalina OS update? i found a script the someone wrote and i tried it but it still doesn't work...

Wow, hearing all these issues is a little scary. I have two Radions and a Vortec and a Reeflink, all on wifi.

Approaching two years now and I have not had a single significant issue. I do not feel that the program is great by any means and certainly could be more user friendly. But from a function standpoint, like I said, no significant issues.

I use my desktop, I have not attempted to use my phone tho I have looked at the App. I do have really high end equipment as I computer game and have Google fiber one gig up and down. But, I wouldn't think that would really be an issue with the Reeflink on wifi on just about any modern connection.

I sure hope I don't start having issues like some of yall have experienced. I suppose I have been lucky ........so far.
