I recently picked up a second wetside for my MP60. In the box I found a sample bottle of the new Ecotech Coral Glue. What a pleasant surprise! Heck, this much glue would have cost me at least 10 bucks!

The sample bottle I received was 30mL, uses large screw on cap, the applicator/cap is just as tall as the body of the bottle! It is similar to the small Gorilla Glue super glue bottle.

Having almost used about half the bottle I figure it would be nice to post a review of this stuff.

The design of the bottle is superb, application of the glue is easy and mess free. There is almost no chance of the tip becoming clogged, it seals up very well.

The glue is an extremely thick gel, perhaps even more thick than IC Gel. I was able to apply a huge glob about the width and height of a nickle without it budging. I happened to be out of aquamend so I figure I would just use a bunch of extra superglue to apply the frag. To my surprised it worked pretty well, attaching to a ledge on my liverock.

In some instances I definitely think this glue can replace the traditional aquamend/superglue combo used to attached frags.

Once this sample runs out I plan on picking up a large bottle of the Ecotech glue.

Some things I really dislike about other glues that I haven't found to be an issue with the Ecotech glue:

There is a common glue out there, sold as reef glue, but is actually a think hobby glue, it has a pink cap and red sticker, which has a bad habit of becoming horribly clogged. Drives me nuts.

IC GEL, I've found that the aluminum body of the tube will crack and break over time, squeezing out glue onto your hands.

We switched to this when it came out. Absolutely love it. Our disks are near textureless and it's been an asset conquering that.

The only problem I see with the glue is the huge bottles that it comes in. Glue in a plastic container, it's gonna clog several times and way before the bottle is empty.

Yes that can happen, although, the cap on this bottle appears to screw on air-tight so maybe the problem won't be as bad as with other glues. Maybe someone who has gone through a big bottle can chime in?

I'm the one in the shop that the guys get for leaving the PVC glue open, the RO unit on and worse... Leaving the top off the coral glue.

It seems the way the big bottle is designed that the tip dries if you leave the cap off (obviously) and when you go to use it again you can peel it off and let it rip.

I did leave it knocked over on it's side with the cap off one time and simply snipped the plastic tip and was back in business.

I've been using a big bottle for a couple of months without clogging. With the applicator cap and metal needle, no worries about clogging. I still have the stuff on my wedding band and can't get it off. Sign of a real reefer, lol.

Just wanted to do a follow up on my glue review. I ended up purchasing the medium size bottle once my sample ran out, I am having a lot of difficulty with this one. The glue is almost impossible to get out (I have to squeeze with both hands) and it clogs up after every use. I've treated this bottle no differently than the sample one, so they should act the same. I suspect I received some glue that had been on the shelf too long. I've contacted Ecotech about the problem.

adding onto this review. i went thru 2 large bottles. i recommend purchasing at least 3 extra twist on nozzles per bottle. First bottle I had alot of issues with glue hardeing on the inside of the nozzle and had to keep cutting it down, because of that (not complete seal) the glue ended up hardening inside the bottle. I still had half the bottle left. Called ecotech and they sent a replacement bottle (with a return label to send the old/dried up bottle back to them) and i ordered 3 tips to go with it. The glue is AWESOME and so was their customer service! If they made this in a good toothpaste type tube that won't puncture.........
