I recently sent one of my powerheads to Ecotech for a cord extension. When it came back to me, the insulation was exposed and didn't reach the heat shrink. The insulation inside the heat shrink helps act as somewhat of a strain relief which is highly noticeable when compared to my other powerheads. I'm worried about the cord bending and the wires coming out of the connector or worse one of the wires getting abraded. Should I be concerned or am I over thinking it?

I did, but they said I would have to cover the shipping expenses. Shipping isn't all that cheap, so I was looking to see what others thought before I did that.

That’s disappointing since they made the alteration. Did they say there was no cause for concern? I suppose you could reinforce the space with electrical tape if the wires aren’t actually exposed.

For how much these cost that looks like some poor work to have then install an extension. Seeing the wires like that doesn't look too bad. The wires aren't exposed, just the wire sheathing. As long as it works right, adding electrical tape should suffice and prevent any further issues. Once you have this installed, Im sure the wires would be an out of sight out of mind problem.

do you mind sharing how much you invested in that alteration? I mean considering that's OEM work there it seems pretty shoddy and you wouldn't see that in a brand new electrical product of any sort off the shelf. If you didn't pay much then you could arguably not care. If you invested what you think is quality money then I'd dispute it as not quality work and you shouldn't have to pay shipping for them to do it right the first time.

The powerhead is brand new $400 and the extension was $50.

This is my feeling as well. I'd hate to make a company pay for shipping, but it does feel like a quality control issue that could have easily been avoided (and noticed).
