As the chart above indicates....if yours is one that can be upgraded.... It is worth it. I bought two upgrade kits from BRS a few months ago. I had an issue with one of the MP40 controllers. Ecotech said they would service it .... but would not guarantee this upgrade would fix the issue. I went ahead.... did the upgrade myself....simple to do... and my MP40s are much quieter... and the issue is completely resolved.

Nice chart @AdamNC ! Mine are so old, they didn't even make the chart. 
The drysides have the tank thickness adjusters on them, and the original wetsides had an area of the cover that was solid plastic. Old on the left, new on the right.
In addition, the controllers, you had to guess how high you had them turned up. The four horizontal controllers are for the MP40's:
Of the four MP40's I have, I only have one original wetside remaining. All the other's ended up with swollen magnets (most likely do to cleaning with vinegar). My recommendation, if you'd like to clean in acid, is to use muriatic acid (diluted 1 to 10) or citric acid (3/4 - 1 cup made up to one gallon). The vinegar (acetic acid) penetrates plastic eventually getting to the magnet and causes it to swell.
I'd recommend picking up a new wetside, if for anything, to have it as a backup when the old guy eventually craps out.
