Would you all recommend a single MP40 pump being the only power head in a 23 in L x 19 in W x 18 in H tank with Bubble Tip Anemones and 2 clownfish?

I think so. I’m using one MP40 in a 120G that measures 48x24x24 ish and it works fine. Tank is less than a year old so light bioload and only a few corals but I seem to have good flow.

That with a return pump should work just fine

On a tank that small you will have to turn the MP40 way down. I think you’d be better off with 2 mp10s

I would do one Mp40 rather than 2 MP10’s. You can keep it much higher than people realize, and once you inevitably upgrade, the MP10’s will be practically worthless

I would get a strong return pump with a random flow generator to supplement

2 x MP10= 3000gph

23" x 19" x 18"= 7866 divided by 231 = 34gallons

3000 gph divided by 34 gallons = 88x turnover in the tank

I think you will be just fine.

IMO Mp40 too much. As others mentioned 2 Mp10s would work, even 1 Mp10 would work in a pinch.

Hey @darcty don't you just love it when other people tell you how to spend your money? LOL
My suggestions are just that, suggestions. Just maybe what I would hope to do, if my budget allowed.
You could get away with a single MP40 just fine, but you would have to keep it dialed down.
There are several different programs that you can pick that should help keep the sand in place ( if you decide to use sand)
In a tank that small I would suggest you use the foam guards for the MP pumps to help keep the anemones for getting sliced and diced. There are even aftermarket 3-D printed anemone guards around.
Good luck with your build and start a build thread.

I have a 24gal jbj nano cube with a mp10 and just installed a mp40 on it. Will probably be selling the mp10 and order a second mp40. I keep it super low but it does a wonderful job and when I setup one of my bigger tanks sitting in my garage I’ll switch it over to the other tank.

For a bare bottom tank, LPS & softies, would one MP10 suffice?

Same tank dimensions.
IMO, all the flow in the tank coming from a single side ( excluding return flow) isn't the best.
Could you get away with it, sure, but 2 wave makers really work better.
