I have mobius capable MP40's on either side of my Reefer 425. I am using whatever spacers that it said to use in the packaging. They are not new but came with my about 1.5 year old used setup.

After feed mode is done and they restart, they lose magnetic connection and the dry side flails about on the glass. It's almost as if they're out of synch. N-N, S-S. It also can happen if you just manually go to 1% for a bit and then ramp back up. The magnets physically disconnect!

One time I successfully fiddled with it while it was on and was able to get it to realign and work.

Most times, I have to cut all power to driver, reconnect magnets and then restart and it works great.

What's the deal!?

I would try a thinner spacer than what they recommend then. I think the 425 has 1/2inch glass but am not positive on that. I had a vortec that would do this all of the time.

i have a similar problem when I clean my tank and shut the MP40s off. Upon restart they will vibrate and lose connection. Happens about 50% of the time. I only use the thinnest rubber gasket spacer too.

Nice.

Yes it is 1/2" thick glass I am currently using the Ecotech "Thin" spacers: "For use with glass thicknesses over 1/4" and up to 1/2"".

I'll remove them and just try the gaskets.
Yea sounds like youre right on the edge of the upper limit. Remove spacer for more magnetic holding power would be my first remedy.

They are physically in excellent condition. I tried feed mode and it seems these thin gaskets are the ticket. Thanks!

I have the exact same issue with my mine on my standard 75g. I used the recommended size spacers.

Mine does the same once in a while. And then it hammers against the glass. I have not been able to get any help from Ecotech .. :( It could also happen between "modes". I have tried to change the wetside and it's still the one on the left side. So it must be the Dryside that is ******* something up.. Also exported the program to a friend, and he never seen the problem.. :(
I now run a bit slower with them and clean the Wetside more frequently..

I have mine set on lagoon mode with 38% intensity during the day and down to 28% overnight.

What are you running yours at?

Similar. Added a short run for nutrient export recently and they were at 50% for lagoon but trying a bit lower for some of the lower flow corals to see if helps them or not.

Cool, you really slow down overnight huh? Do you worry about water agitation and 02 level at all during that period? I drop mine to 28%.

My LPS and soft love lagoon mode. Just got some SPS frags so waiting to see how they react.

Yea I may increase it at night but so far, no ill effects. I think it should get enough O2 with the skimmer and water running through filter socks etc. But we'll see.

So I activated feed mode again the other day and one of them disconnected and started hammering again.

This is after I've installed the thinnest gasket possible.

I disconnected power, reset the wet side, and restarted them. Silent again.

Not sure why they do this...
