Is this normal for the xr30w

Using one of the settings from ecotech. Light is 10 days old and new tank.

I never noticed the disco in other peoples pictures with the same light. I'll toss the diffuser on the list for future purchases.

I have a xr15 g4 and I haven’t noticed it Like that. Is that your white channel that is all the way up? I’m running the blues all the way up and whites are like 30% max. I’m pretty close to the AB+ for lps schedule. Maybe that is the difference.

I’ve seen the diffuser vids and it would surely eliminate any disco affect.

I agree, I have a G4s mounted 13.5 inches above tank and don't notice any disco ball. I did have to get used to the flicker of leds though.

I have the arm mount from ecotech so however high that is over a 24" deep tank. I chose the first setting that ecotech has on their website I think it was "maximum growth" or something like that. Then I reduced the intensity to 60%. It was discoing just as bad on factory settings.

Turn all your pumps off so the surface water isn’t moving, does that make any difference? The more surface water rippling the more the light will “dance”. I’ve got some disco affect under my return pump but no separation of colors like in your pic. If I turn my pumps off there is no disco affect. So it might be worth trying to get your surface water to have a little less movement if possible.

Turned the pump off and I could not see the color separation. I don't think I want to point my returns lower because I thought ripples were good for gas exchange. I guess I'll just live with it for now until I pick up a diffuser.

I wonder if you run a skimmer if that is taking care of gas exchanges anyway? I wanted to ask that on the forum here but never got around to it.

Yup, I hate the disco effect of the Radions (I have 2 XR15Ws), both the color separation and the busy fast shimmer, but I love the darned lights. I did go ahead and purchase the diffusers and really, really like the light it produces...relaxing lower frequency shimmer and no color separation.
