Ecotech radion g5 knock off found!

Running into some connection issues with the app on my new X30 lights. I bought 2 for my 4ft tank and setting the first light, everything went smoothly. I connected to the light's wifi, linked it to my home wifi, and can control it wirelessly. So I thought, great, on to the next light. Connected to the light's wifi just fine but when I tried to link it to my home's wifi, it straight up refused and kept saying it cannot find any wifi. I lost track how many times I tried, but one time I found my home's network, I typed in the password and it just stopped and lost connection. The light was flashing this yellow and white light too. I tried deleting my first light from my devices and try setting up the second light and that didnt work. I restarted the light, did a factory reset and still nothing.

I can only control the second light through direct link, meaning connecting to the light's wifi and setting the light schedule there. During my struggles, the first light now somehow refuses to connect to my wifi as well. So now I have to direct link to both lights with their onboard wifi to do any settings and changes. Not Ideal but at least it will get me started.

Anyone have the same issue and know how to fix this? This app doesnt work with android 14 so Im using an antient phone for now. Asking the seller and he needs to talk with his technical people so waiting for him to get back to me.

So playing around with the app some more, borrowing an ios phone to see if the problem somehow fixes itself, and resetting the lights 10+ times, I finally am able to successfully add the 2 lights on the app and link them together on either platform but ran into yet another problem, both lights cannot be synced with one another.

I would pick 1 of the 4 presets on the app on my left light and send the program to both lights. The app will say that it has sent it to my left light, then my right light, but my right light is running a totally different setting than my left. If I set a program on my right light and send it to both lights, the right light will get the correct program, but my left will have a different program sent. The "wrong" program sent to either phones are the same weirdly enough tho.

Right now have unlinked both lights and just send the lighting schedule to each light individually for now. Just sucks I would have to match the intensity with both lights as close as possible.

So after 2 weeks of talking to the seller, taking a video of the light linked together but not syncing, and waiting for their programmers to look into the problem. They officially gave up and reimbursed me 100rmb or almost 14 bucks for my troubles. Light works fine individually, just not linked.

I really wish they add a plus minus button so I could precisely dial in the intensity. The slider is impossible to use accurately.

Oh and there’s a battery on the board, guessing this is to save settings maybe ?
So now that you got these together are they hung and if so how are you liking them ? and is the App working in English?

Click on my build thread there’s a pic there. I like them, the app is English but is terrible. However I set them once and don’t really mess with them so not a huge deal.

This last patch update messed up with my config. Anyone know how to reset the A8S? In the manual they said something about the intensity button, you need to press down and up, 3 times?

It worked using iOS. Not working on Android.

The app is VERY finicky. I literally used 3 phones both android and ios, reset the light half a dozen times, turned my fish room into a disco EDM dance floor before i finally got it to barely work and decided to say f it and call it a day.

It's recommended not to mess around a lot... set it up e let it be. App is very bugged.

Oke ordered 4 installed 3.. running the ab+ build in preset with small adjustment to time and white %.

These are the cheapest a8se full china fixtures i could find through alibaba, total was 664usd for 4 excluding shipping (im in europe shipping ups express was 105usd + about 90 usd in customs fee)

So far… im amazed.. cant fault them yet, also the app isnt as bad as i expected it to be, everything synced up nicely and adjusted just fine

Thanks for the updates, I'm very interested to see how they perform. Currently looking to upgrade from a single Prime16 to something that offers some more spread and coverage.

When you take someone else's intellectual design and flat out copy it, that's unethical and immoral in every way. I don't care about the legality. Lots of things are legal but unethical.

Company: I mean we made it look exactly like a duck, it sits like a duck, it even walks like a duck but the quack is 5% quieter and in a different language...

Consumer: Oh! That's okay then!
Okay but honestly full spectrum LED lighting is not novel to reef keeping. It started as plant lighting (read about Dr. Ott pioneering this as a nutrition source for plants and animals and humans and his theory on malillumination and its similarities to malnutrition). LEDs were common for those of us with exotic avian species well before they got the aquarium trade. Any company producing LED lighting for any purpose is just taking something someone else discovered and tweaking it to make their version of a better wheel.
Same goes for power heads. It’s a waterproof fan. Magnet driven motor, thank you Henry Ford. How many ways are there to design a low profile circle, or a rectangle? I’ve got led puck lights mounted under cabinets that predate kessils.
There is a difference in a rectangular black box light and a purse that’s branded Dior that wasn’t made by Dior.

They didn't simply "tweak" the technology. No one had made anything like a Radion before. The Chinese copied what Ecotech did. Big difference. The Chinese didn't "tweak" LED technology to fit their use. They stole someone else's work.

I guess if you want to paint with such a broad brush, there is no such thing as patents and trademarks. I mean, in the end it is simply just LED technology.

Patent infringement is enforceable. IDK if echo tech’s patents for older lights are still in place or if they expired.
But honestly at this point it IS just LEDs that put out a desired amount of energy and proprietary SOFTWARE to run the light. Everyone built off of someone else’s research.

Pharmaceuticals was a fantastic analogy as it’s the OG manufacturer that spends the tens to hundreds of millions and sometimes a decade of work to develop then research through four phases of clinical trial for safety and efficacy. Then the patent expires and everyone produces it and hopefully glaxo or lilly or Novartis etc made their money back before it expired.

Again, it has clearly been stated that the lights in questions have different wattage, and different software.

There are only so many ways to design a rectangular fixture and beyond physical appearance, there doesn’t seem to be any similarity between the two lights. AI didn’t invent light bars. Did they rip off someone else’s design?

China doesn’t care about patent infringement and the companies here can’t do anything about it.

Jebao started by stealing Tunze’s design that was patented. There was no recourse to stop that.

They made it look just like Radion G5 so that others would buy it thinking they are getting a good deal on a knock off. And may be it is a good deal. I don't know. But from the pictures and the specs so far, as I mentioned already on page 1 of this thread, these lights are not in anyway copies of radions and should not be treated as such. You pay less, you get less in this case.

P.S.: Someone should send me one of these for repair when it breaks for you :) . I'll do a repair video and do a detailed technical compare between this light and a radion G5.

Why wait till one breaks.. :)
It would be interesting to compare driver boards, cpu ect.

Oh, I agree :) But the motivation to send in a broken light may be stronger.
I'm also curious about the cluster and the LEDs they put on it.
