Ecotech Radion G6?

I just got mine last night. Trying to dial them in now but so far the par seems really low. I have every channel at 100%, point intensity at 100% and both moonlight channels at 100% but I’m only getting 150 par with the light mounted 9” above the water and my apex par meter 12” under the water. Might need a third just for low light levels. Would probably need 6 for an sps tank.

From the pic it looks like the tank does not have water yet. The reflectivity of the glass changes by a large amount with water in the tank. See ~2:00 of this video:

Also, due to the increased emission angle, I would recommend lowering the light to 7-8" off the water surface.

It does actually have water, just nothing else and only light for 4 hours so far, so everything is very very clean lol. It does also have a mesh lid which I’m sure also cuts down on the par.

next step is to move the meter to the corner and see how far I can lower it without losing too much light.

Wow the water looks so clear.

Just looked at the old G5 XR15 youtube videos from BRS and the par numbers are in the same ballpark. The G6 values would be slightly lower due to the increased spread.

What is your schedule intensity set to?

What size tank & what’s the spread between the lights?

Its 60x24x24, lights are 20" apart, though shifted slightly to the right of the tank since the overflow is on the left.

Below is the schedule I have them on so far, which is reading the 150 PAR at the 12" under water mark.

It actually looks pretty good, i'm reading between 70-150 PAR at every single spot in the tank I tried to measure.

WOW! That seems really low par. Not what I have seen on other gen5 mapping. I would not want that low of par for my sps systems.
Am I missing something?
Well its 2 XR15's over a 5' tank. Recommended number is 4 for an sps tank. Also I have pretty low rock work, I have a good 8" of clear space. I didn't really have any expectations going in.

Final settings are:

Point Intensity = 100%

UV = 100%
Violet= 100%
Royal = 100%
Blue = 100%
Green = 50%
Red = 50%
Warm White = 80%
Cool White = 80%
Moonlight = 100%
Moonlight Blue = 100%

This is my first reef tank so I don't really have a feel for what color blend is going to look best. It seems really bright to my eyes, the clean sand is almost hard to look at.

You won't be keeping SPS under 2 XR15s on that size tank. LPS will be just fine.

Your numbers are right in line with what I saw on my 120 when it had 2 XR15s. I couldn't keep SPS anywhere.

In the pursuit for better spread and color blending, LED companies have no choice but to use larger panels with more LEDs driven at higher wattages. An XR30 at full power is barely less wattage than a 250w halide, has less spread, little to no shimmer, limited spectrum, and costs double upfront.

Just sold all my radion g5 xr15 and xr30 . I was never happy with them. I bought instead read see reefled 160.

What made me switch ? Their scam marketing claims and the results.

The g5 were worse than the g4 which was good. The g4 had wifi,made less noise,had more power,a better spectrum,more color pop.The g5 had disco ball effect also whiteout the diffuser,they had no real uv contrary to their claims. From a light to another, I measured significant paar differences,fir the spread I have to add twice as the recommended amount.Also, I have the sofa close to the tank and got lights in the face all time, my wife don't want them anymore for this reason.
With their study, they claimed better results than t5 and hqi,i never experienced this, some corals were ok with the light some sps not.I had to add again t5 to get better results. So take a light that should be better than t5 from spread and spectrum for end with them again...that is ..!!

For the g6,This should actually have been the real g5 instead of the g6.The wider spectrum in the blue is a good thing, less green, I'm not sure . When I turned the green to 100% the results on the radion were better ( t5 have a spike in the green). But I saw already a few people saying that it is not really more wide spectrum on the g6 , just marketing claims again ,even on Facebook people claim it see attachment.
The spectrum seems relatively unchanged, apart from maybe having less blue. Ok they have 395 but it is not enough to make a difference.
Where is the moonlight introduced by the g5? Given the design from the g6 there is a space for it, but where it is? Economical reason, shortage?
And pay 400$ for having just 3 Uv diodes more and no moonlights? Seriously no way! And I not more believe any claims from their marketing, this company can't be trusted anymore after what they did to us.

Would their lens support Uva, from what I know their technology until now doesn't support it, so how suddenly without testing it can be possible? How long they will hold? There is a big risk for break in 1-2 year just after the end of the warranty... But don't worry, they will propose you the g7 then..

Why I went with the reefleds? Because on my smaller tank , I bought recently a cheap second hand reefled 90, I wanted something cheap because I just had lps inside. I was thinking that this light is too weak and the spectrum too narrow for sps but ok for lps and it not have a lot of par. I put inside some frags of sps that were not thriving or had stn issue in the main tank with the radions. To my big surprise, instead of dying as expected they growth and get much better color than the man tank, the pop is also better! Some dying scoly under the radions also grew back. This lights definitely have something special. All frags I putted get better colors and growth.Also they have a great shimmer, are not noisy and you not have light come in your eyes when you are in the sofa.
So I sold my two Radions xr15 and my xr30 for two 160s . I was thinking two are not enough as I had tree radions so more watt, but actually two seems to be enough in terms of spread , they are surprisly good for a single lens light. I just saw also the brs reviews of the 90 the spread is great,unfortunately they not did it with the 160 which even should be better with the wider lens.So I even saved money and electricity with this change. They just could be a bit whiter and add a bit more red to my taste, as I prefer more daylight light. But it is no a big issue, and the tank looks better with the shimmer. The kessil seems also to be great but the put also light in the eyes and they have a bit less pop than the read sea.

There is the place for it, but not the led from what I read in article and ecotech website not show them'
And for people saying you need no diffuser ,on their web side they are selling one for it..So still not improved.

Glad you're happy with your new selection. I haven't personally used the Red Sea ReefLEDs - but many people both use and like them. I'm still very happy with my G5 Radion Blues. I actually like the green/cyan - and the corals seem to like it, too. I know there's going to be less PAR with the G6 Radions with the tradeoff for more spread. I'm still on the fence on whether to replace a G5 XR15 with a G5 XR30, get another G5 XR15 or get a G6 XR30. Or just leave my current light configuration as is.

I can confirm it does have moonlights. Two channels of them.

Why the ecotech web site not shows them?

I suspect it's the big light blue dot in the LED diagrams on both the G6 Radion XR15 and XR30. Why didn't they list it? Oversight. But since we have actual confirmation from a G6 owner maybe we can put the speculation to rest...

There's at least a dozen points of misinformation and lack of context in this.

We'll just go with one of them though... How do you know Ecotech didn't test the 395nm diodes with their plastic? How do you know they didn't change the plastic to accommodate the UV? Or like with the AI lights, they don't allow you to overdrive them?

Way too many assumptions and emotions to make a good case for either light here.

Glad you're happy with the Red Sea lights because behind the scenes, they are one of the most hated lights out there with loads of issues that get swept under the rug (like most things Red Sea makes.)
