im thinking about running ecotech radions on my 150g so I'm doing some research and was wondering if anyone has them and how they like them? Is coral growth good? How is the coloring? This will be a big investment for me and a first for LEDs so any help would be great

I tested one on my 120g and they are too bright for my clownfish tank. I had to turn them down to 40%. I heard from several local reefers that you can adjust them to your hearts delight to pop certain colors in corals, but I didn't have any corals to test. Since I just needed bascially an on/off LED fixture, I went with 2x Kessils instead.

If you have the funds, go for it, it's a nice programmable fixture. I might be letting go of mine soon as I'm pretty sure I'm going to stay with the Kessils.

Can't speak against them per se....by all accounts they are a nice lighting system! Vivid Aquariums has been running as set side by side with Radium halides on their 800 gallon system, so you can look there for some comparisons. I know another place doing a similar experiment. So far so good at both sites!

I would point out that they are not a focused light source, so there will be a lot of light-spill on a narrow tank like a 150g (assuming yours is standard 72x18x30H) unless the light is sitting just a few inches off the water. There will actually still be a fair amount of spill with the light at that height - at 6" height you'll still have a 20-36"+ diameter of coverage from 120-140º LEDs. (They don't specify.) If yours will be inside a canopy this won't be so much of an issue. (I do see they have a lens system you can add $$ on, but they give no specs for it on their site and the system is already pricey.) Technically, something with lenses like the Aqua Illuminations Sol system would be better suited to your tank's dimensions.

As you already mentioned, they are a fairly large expense - even relative to comparably featured lights. (Especially if you compare with DIY.) But if the price is within budget, you have no interest in DIY and they really meet your needs for the tank (at the price-level, this is really worth fleshing out!) then I don't see a reason not to try them! Worth case scenario if you don't like them is to sell them....and so far they appear to hold their value pretty well.

I've had 3 Radions over a 180G for about 11 months now. They rock!

Coral growth has been excellent - softies, LPS and SPS are all growing very well. I've had a finger leather double in size. Two torches got so big I had to frag them out because they were stinging their neighbors. SPS growth (montipora) has been very good - these are new corals to me, but they're encrusting and growing well.

Colors are excellent - as mentioned above, infinitely customizable with different lighting throughout the day. About the only they're missing is the super deep blue/UV LEDs. Ecotech announced a Pro version is coming soon with those added, and some kind of upgrade path for current owners will be announced soon.

I've only had one problem - a fan failed on one of the fixtures. Ecotech replaced it (the whole fixture) very quickly.

yeah i read that the pro version going to be $950. i thought about running four on my 150g but that maybe over kill. my tank is going to be mixed with sps dominate.

I bought 6 radion lights for a short time and was not happy with them. The light itself was very well built, and the color was good compared to the AI sols that they replaced. The software was absolutely horrible, and full of bugs. I've been following the Ecosmart Live thread on RC, and it seems that nobody can get it to work properly. A great piece of hardware, controlled by an awful controller. The lack of any spectrum under 450nm wasn't great either. The new Pro fixes that but at a huge cost. I went back to MH and T5 and am very happy. Just my experience with them.

I have been running one over a 28g nano cube for a few months now and couldn't be happier. I only run it at 45% about 8" off the surface. Growth has been great especially with the montipora family of SPS. My cali tort is rocking as well.

I'm not sure if the software has been upgraded since the person above had used it but I have never had any issues with the software and I run it across a wireless usb hub. In fact the software has been one of the things I like most about it. My buddy has been running 10 of them over his 375 since the day they came out he has great color and growth both with sps and lps.

I will say its a bit much much on my 28 and some some corals such as a green birds nest have bleached out a bit and I had to move them down, but others have really colored up nicely! I really like that they have preset color spectrum's to pic from and I don't have to spend so much time trying to fine tune the spectrum I want and hope its right.

I was running an AI sol blue for about a year and did have some success with it but nothing in comparison to the success I have had with the Radion. In all fairness to the AI, I don't think I had it tuned in just right but even so the color of the Radion to me is much nicer.

Now I am fairly new to the hobby and have only ever used LED. This is my third LED fixture and its been the best for me. As far as comparing them to MH or T5 sounds like most still feel that keeping it old school is better.

I love mine. 3 over a 200 gallon tank. Great growth and color. Totally replicates MH, I will never go back. I havn't noticed any bugs in the software.

How do you have them set up. What did you start then off at time and percentage? What have you increased them to and how did you increase the time and percentage?

Three would be better on my pocket that is forsure. I haven't read anything on bugs in the programs yet but hey that is the reason to do research right. I'm still on the fence about LEDS I like my T5's but cost to run them plus the heat is a problem. Bulbs replacement get up there to. Thank for the help guys and gals any info is helpful.
