I have often wondered why packing peanuts couldnt be made from starch mixed with a little ferilizer and you could just put them on your yard or house plants or the local park.

They do make "edible" packing peanuts. I don't know why, other than expense, they haven't become more popular. I like them because they don't hold static. They're nice for a house like mine that has a beagle/Dyson mix.
