I have just found an Eel living in once of my pieces of live rock. Since i have not added any rock for a couple of years i have to assume he hitchhiked on on one of these as a baby. The thing is he never comes out of the rock (that i have noticed so far). he just pops his head out. I shined a light into his den and he took off deep inside it but i could see that he was 3 or 4 inches long. Looked kind of red in color. (need to figure out how to get a better look).

He also seems to cover the entrance to his den with sand every night or so. Then its open the next day.

Any thought on how i can identify him? or feed him?

My guess would be if you spot feed at night with flash light he should pop out to eat and you could probably snag it with tweezers and inspect. A worm that big could become dangerous to corals or fish so depending upon what you keep it may be worth knowing.
