My best fish friend just got a clown grouper and some sort of spotted eel. The store said it was either a tessalata or a spotted snake eel. I did some research and the closest match I can find is a large spotted snake eel (https://grahamsisland.com/2021/11/02/large-spotted-snake-moray-eel/). Here is a vid of him in the 5 gallon bucket while he drip acclimates. @lion king do you recognize him?

Link to video in case it’s broken

Looks like a Myrichthys tigrinus, the spotted snake eel

It is a moray eel, not a snake eel, of the genus Uropterygius. Possibly Uropterygius polyspilus.

Dont quote me but may be a black spotted moray - just a wild guess

Not a tessalata, I believe @Slocke is right. Really not a wise move to get an eel not knowing what they really are, those 2 eels are very different in size and temperament.

The eel is going in a 75 gallon by itself, he also owns a 200+ gallon FOWLR so we figured no matter the species he could take care of it. I will try to get a better picture of the face from him later

Just a warning. I've never heard of anyone who has kept this type of eel. It may just not be popular, or hard to collect, or it might be it is very difficult to keep.

I have two eels already, the eel is currently doing an internal parasite treatment as a precaution but took a couple shrimp today so that’s a good sign
