Eel in SPS dominated tank.

Hi All.
I don’t see SPS tanks with eels, I was just curious why is that. Or if someone have or had 1 in their tanks what are the cons. Please send some pics too.

Not sure as to why we reefers do not see many eels in SPS tanks. I am guessing it may be because of the fish we try to keep in SPS tanks.

It’s rare because eels eat a lot and therefore poop a lot causing a higher nutrient tank. SPS does better in nutrient regulated tanks.

Welcome! I have one in an SPS tank, not a problem but expect to have a few frags missing. They are out and about at night and easily knock off ones that are glued to rock.

Tank is only 6 months old but I have a big four foot ribbon eel in my sps tank. He knocks stuff over from time to time and I went overzise on my skimmer. Perhaps a bit extra cleaning but no lack of nutrients!

Welcome to R2R. Never had an eel I would expect it to break pieces of sps as it swims around.

350 mixed reef with a 16 inch fox eel. No issues at all. Being a member of the dottyback family it stays out during the day.
