Eel jumped, chances of revival?

Have you inspected the tank for any possible escape routes. My 1st eel found his way to the floor via the overflow of a hob filter. Every other crack and crevice was covered, just didn't think he would somehow swim up the overflow and out. Their nature is to explore, poking their noses into every crack and crevice, likely just looking for some food.
i'm working on covering all possible escapes rn

OP said it was a glass lid. The only glass lids I have seen are on traditional plastic braced aquariums and they have that 2 inch or so gap in the back that has to be filled with the plastic piece. Those plastic pieces can be pushed up in the corners and at long run areas. It's also pretty tuff to make cut outs for cords and such and have them be perfect.

You tape that area down, I use gorilla tape.

All you can do is put him back into his home and hope for the best. I wouldn't add anything to the tank. They can live longer than many think outside of water.

While it may be possible, it's unlikely he pushed through a glass lid, ribbons don't have the strength as some other eels may. Check every crack and crevice, these guys can literally squeeze through a paper thin crack. I tape the backend if my lids down where there's a slight crack between the border and the tank. Are your overflows covered, some eels have made it to floor via an overflow and into the sump, then onto the floor.
Glad you hopped on. . .. I tried stating how well they can do out of water and only assurance it wont make it which I begged to differ. Ive seen worse with full recovery- Just takes a long time to eat again once recovered

appreciate everyones optimism, gonna leave him overnight to see if there's any improvement

I was just getting ready to ask as well. Hopefully good news.
woke up today, he's breathing somewhat normally. still looks quite stressed but he's alive, still somewhat stationary in his box but he's upright now. However I have decided that I will be giving him to my friend who's blue tang I'm growing out. sozin will be going to live in a 300 gallon reef tank.

as for the future of my 2 ribbons, I've been working on doubling down on the lid reinforcement. and I've been in contact with a company about having a tank custom made to accommodate these guys and be escape proof, my goal would be to have a large colony of ribbon eels. for right now I'll stick with my 2 smaller ones, the only reason I'll be getting another one for the current tank is if I'm able to find a yellow or another rescue pops up. I appreciate everyone's concern and support.

Excellent and as i stated- will not eat for a while and you will see improved breathing each day. Assure water quality mainly nitrates are at safe levels. I from onset see this guy pulling through- My gosh - YOU NOW HAVE A STORY TO TELL !!!

He will recover best and re-establish eating if he is in his own tank. This stress can still take it's toll, he may never re-establish eating. If he's back into his previous environment it will give him his best chance at full recovery.
