Hey everyone, I got a new tank that has a full lid with the exception of a tiny slot in the back for a HOB filter. I got this tank so I could have an eel, but how sneaky are they? will the small slot be inconspicuous enough for the eel, or are they smart enough to head right to it?

Every crack and crevice must be sealed. If you are going to use a hob you must fashion a cover for the overflow. Please don't listen to those that say they have an open tank, they will never confess when that eel goes carpet surfing. The eel has no concept, In the wild they will squeeze into cracks and crevices, they are just cruising.

What all of them have said. In addition, as the eel grows it will have to be secured well. They are amazingly strong and can push even relatively heavy lids out of the way.

Every knook and cranny must be sealed. They will find any way to escape. I had a snowflake that would even swim up into my hob filter so i had to tape the lid for it down
