Eels that don't appreciate the water they're given

If you have an eel or two like I do, I hope you've got a cover on your tank. 3 times now I've found my 18" snowflake on the concrete floor in the basement. One of those times I found him only because the dog went sniffing around the back of the tank. I'm curious. How many people have recussitated their eels lately?

It’s a common thing, which is why if you have eels you need a mesh lid or something to contain them or it will die.

Yeah, I have given up on eels. My last attempt actually pushed up my Artfully Acrylic lid and got out. Unfortunately did not notice until morning

Yeah, you need something to weigh down a lid too. They're pretty darned strong...

I have the glass lids for my eel tank. My tank is not drilled so I have an overflow box and I have a hangon skimmer also so the glass does not cover the entire back of my tank. I purchased the plastic trim that is on most of the new tank with glass lids (it runs across the back of the glass) from a local LFS. I laid the plastic on the glass and marked off the areas where the overflow and skimmer were and cut the areas out for them giving me a completely closer lid. My eel is so huge I think he could push the heavy glass up if he wanted to though. It’s a black jewel moray, Its about 3ft long and at least 9-10 inches in diameter.

My dwarf golden moray has yet (from what I’ve seen) ventured out of his cave and rock Work other than to eat. I specifically am leaving moonlights on for him as well.. I am in the process of ordering a new lid and considering I also have hang on back overflow and my return pipe.. my lid barely fits on. It’s probabaly 40% off.. I’ll be really upset if he jumps.. tank is also right near my bed so I’d expect to wake up to a wet eel next to me

He’s in a 90 gal. I bought him at a LFS store about 50 miles from my home about 10 years ago. Before I get a bunch of replies telling me the tank is to small I already know. The LFS store advised me he wouldn’t get real big and was about double the width of a number 2 pencil and maybe 12-15 inches long. I loved his coloring and he was different than any other eel we looked at (I still haven’t found one like him anywhere, not even on the web). I think I paid like $49 for him. My tank had a ton of rocks in it and it loved winding through the maze however as he grew I had to remove a lot of the rocks because he got so big he would be rearranging them and they would smack the side of the tank, I was afraid he’d end up breaking it. He has an engineer goby, a blk&whi little damsel that keep him company. He’s scared me a few times by not eating for 6-8 weeks at a time but then he does eat he’s a pig! About 20 sliders every 2-3 days or a ton of squid, clams, and shrimp.

I actually was looking and it says they can be housed in a minimum of 50 gallons? Jeweled morays? I was quite surprised to see that. He’s apparently rated the same size as my little tiny guy. I hope you and the eel the best! Please post more about it!

I found my little snowflake eel on the floor a few days after I got him, I was terrified he was dead, but I put him back in his tank and within a day he was back to normal. I rearranged his live rock to make as many caves for him as I could and I think that helped because he hasn't jumped since. He is in a tank with a built in lit (biocube 32) and he managed to find a way to squeeze out. The little turd. But I love him
