3 or 4 in a 5 foot 120 ok? I see they like each other.
I think if they have enough room to stretch without bumping into each other and their caves and safe spots are large enough they’d be ok. Just my thought though.

Yeah just try and get them together if you can.
I’d try and make a rough rock burrow for them like a cave rock that sits on the bottom of the tank.

I could also get fewer. They are a lot like snakes so I don't think the mrs would like them and I was thinking multiple because my quick research indicated they are community fish.

I can make a burrow for them as nothing but bacteria lives in the tank right now.

I miss my engineer goby. It was lost in my tank move. Unfortunately, not set up this time for one.
That’s how I lost mine… A failed tank move ended up in me losing all my stock in my old 3’ tank unfortunately (I think I lost Atleast 5K in livestock).

You’d think I wouldn’t go spendy in fish/coral in my new tank after that but nope! I have Atleast 3 fish worth 150-200 at this point. And coral isn’t even close to being complete! I have too much rockwork showing still.

You two know what happened and how I can avoid it?

My issue was that I put the rock, the cave dwelling fish, some coral and some water into a tub (3’x2’x2’ tub) the previous day to moving the tank and unfortunately I couldn’t move the tub into the house with heating. I ended up leaving it in the shed thinking it would be warm in the night and turns out it went below 0°C (35°F). 6 fish ended up freezing that night whilst another 8(ish) were in the house. One of the guys that froze was the engineer goby, the one I’m glad (in the nicest way I could put it) froze was my Neon Velvet Damsel.

I could likely avoid that one. We are planning a move "at some point" though.

It’s a rather easy one to avoid as not many people have their tanks in the shed.

That’s a good thing! Still got some free real estate for corals!
I would love an Indonesian Gold Torch in one of the tanks (the yellow would glow under the SPS reef’s lighting but there just isn’t much room in that tank).

Do the engineers cooperate with shrimp and shrimp gobies?
I think so. I haven't heard of engineer gobies predating on anything and once they have their dens I think both the shrimp goby pair and engineer goby will mostly stay in their dens.

My move was horendous as it lasted about 4x as long as predicted. I lost most things in that move or within a month after. Very sad time. I think some of it could have been my new acrylic tank had not had the full cure time. It was a rush and it was a good month into the new system that I lost the fish. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

It's crazy how expensive even the cheapest DIY sump is. Anyway bought:
  • 44g Brute can
  • Since syncra pump (800GPH)
  • Overflow box
  • bunch of biofiltration
  • Reinforced silicon tubing
Will also use:
  • Big bucket
  • Sand
  • Filter floss
  • Macroalgea
  • LED lamp.
Do you know what I'm doing? "True" reefers with RedSea and Waterbox tanks must hate me :face-with-tears-of-joy: .

Stars of the tank ;)
