I have a little taste of most SPS in my tank. I have tabling acros, stags, torts, milles, montis of many kinds, but the one that eludes me is the wonderful Efflo. I can't keep one alive to save my life. They hate me! I've tried everywhere in my tank with no luck. Please share your experiences with this acro and maybe I'll pick up on something I missed. Maybe a pic or two so I can live vicariously through you too.

i'm trying a piece i got from BC, nice purple and blue color, has encrusted really well and will hopefully start plating soon. i like them but you have to have some space for them to grow.

What lighting and flow is yours under? I'm beginning to thing it may be my LEDs.

We feel your pain! The one that continues to elude us is A desallwi...

How do you acclimate them to your lighting?

Ours do best under moderate light with moderate to strong flow. We run 400w, 14k MH's. Efflo's are very sensitive to dips - we don't dip new aquisitions at all, but do QT to ensure no pests. From our own personal experience, healed, aquacultured frags from colonies that have been in captivity for a good while are more hardy. Freshly-cut frags on the other hand can be iffy.

I'm with you on no dips. I usually work them up in thirds in one week increments. Lower third for a week, middle for a week, then final placement. Maybe I'll try having the vendor hold the frag for a while longer. I'm normally good with two weeks but in this case I'll wait a bit longer.

mine are under radions about 12-14" from mine that are set at 100% blues 60% whites and 55% total power. seems to be doing well, one of the few sps in my tank thats doing well since i've started dosing. some are highly POed.

You are no way getting pics from me on these guys, I have no issues with keeping them alive but getting them to color up is a completely another issue. Lower lighting and they are green and higher lighting they get too pale, I can't figure them out. Like most that I've had issue with I assume I will win eventually with a lot of patience and a little love.

Lol!! Deal! I think I'm going to try and get the Greg Caroll Ultimate Efflo for my next attempt. The tyree $500 is going to cost me $500 if my luck keeps up. Anybody have the Ultimate Efflo?

What about the light spectrum? Maybe yours just isn't showing the color properly.

They're mostly found on steep reef slopes which my guess is heavy flow and lower light. Looking at the structure of this species it seems true due to the fused branches of this coral.

I have mine under an Aquaticlife 6 bulb of ATI T5's only about 12" from the light fixture. Moderate flow to high flow.

Here is a bad sideshot, but you can see how high I have it. Its just above the millie colony.

I have one tiny purple efflo frag. It's the slowest grower ever. It's taken so long to grow its getting attacked on both sides by a sunset monti and an acro. Instead of growing out towards the light like I intended, it's encrusting downwards and away from the light. Hasn't grown hardly any branches.

M&T..thanks...it took over a year for it to settle in and start coloring and growing outward
PUman66....mine looked like that when I first got it...its has to grow out alittle to be sure..... I would move it away from all those zoas ...they may they kill it

thanks Mike. the zoas are pretty good for not taking over a coral. if I moved every time they encroached, I would never have any acros. my tank thread shows their dominance in the tank.

if it is indeed an Efflo, I got it from Happy Coral.com at our swap. I have not a clue what it truly is. it has lost some of its color as it is about mid wy up in the tank. I may try to find a way to raise it up, just need a place up closer to place it where it wont get toppled. its a pretty large piece.
