the two tank I've set up a placed egg crate on my glass bottom added the ricks and put sand around that. Did not want rocks sitting right on glass or right on sand.

Got taking to a buddy last night and said the egg crate would trap stuff like and under gravel filter..

Whats your guys thoughts?

I did the same thing for my tank. I do not think it would be an issue. An undergravel filter has a draw on it pulling water through the gravel. Without that pull how would stuff get trapped. Sand sifting inverts can still get in the sand and move around the majority of the sand bed. So far two years running with no problem that I am aware of.

i did the same thing and as long as you disturb the sand a little while doing water changes .. you should be fine .

Very good.. My first tank was up about 18 months and all seemed good.. Thanks guys...

I'm setting up a 120 gal. with 100 lbs. of live rock. no egg crate for me as I only want about an inch of sand. I had a 125 gal. African cichlid tank with over 200 lbs. of rock with no problems. I have never heard of the bottom of a tank breaking from placing rocks on it. most people don't use it so I don't see it as being a problem.
