Eggcrate for frag tank

I bought black eggcrate for my frag tank.
How high should I keep it off the bottom and should I fit it tight to glass or should I cut it short and if so how much room should I leave.Thank you

For stands I've seen people use short sections of PVC, vertical pieces of egg crate, acrylic dowels, and more. I wouldn't worry about a tight fit - you will want room to maneuver the egg crate, do maintenance, etc. Depending on your layout, size of tank, and range of corals you may also want different levels of racks based on the potentially varying light requirements.
